The Parable of the Two Ships

There were two ships sailing upon the vast sea, each with thirty souls aboard. Among the crews of both ships, there were eight individuals who sowed seeds of discord, always whispering amongst themselves, seeking their own gain above all else.

One day, these ships came close to each other upon the waters. As they approached, a voice rang out from one of the ships, “Let us take that ship and enslave its crew!” The schemers on both ships, filled with greed and suspicion, saw an opportunity to seize power.

The schemers began to shout across the waters, “Let us attack them!” The peacekeepers on each ship raised their hands and voices, pleading for calm, saying, “Let us have peace between us.” But the schemers turned to their own crew and whispered, “You do not understand. They wish to enslave us!”

The noise grew louder, the cries of the schemers overpowering the calls for peace. More schemers emerged from below decks, drawn to the tumult, while the voices of reason were drowned out by shouts of “Kill them!” and “Let us steal their provisions!” Fear and distrust began to spread among the crews.

The peacekeepers on both ships, seeing the rising storm of hostility, became afraid and started to believe that the other ship truly meant them harm. The sense of threat grew stronger on both ships.

Then, an arrow flew from one ship and struck a schemer on the other. Panic erupted, and arrows flew in return. The peacekeepers, now fearing for their lives, believed they were under attack and began to fight back. Desperation and chaos filled the air as both ships steered toward each other.

When the ships collided, violence broke out. Amidst the turmoil, a few still cried for peace, but they were silenced by the schemers who said, “He lies! Look how they have attacked us! He wishes only to deceive and destroy us!”

Arguments flared like wildfire, each side accusing the other of the first strike. Blades clashed, and arrows whizzed through the air, each thud of impact fueling the inferno of conflict. Amidst the fray, schemers smirked, their eyes glinting with the dark satisfaction of chaos well-sown.

Seizing the moment, the schemers moved with a chilling precision. They shouted orders, rallied the panicked, and struck down those who still pleaded for peace. With every cry of pain and every desperate swing of a sword, their grip on power tightened.

When the battle finally subsided, the decks of both ships were littered with the wounded and the fallen. The schemers stood victorious, their faces hard with triumph. They bound the peacekeepers in chains, caring not whether they were from one ship or the other. The pleas for mercy fell on deaf ears as the schemers from both ships realized their common interest. They joined forces, driven by the power and greed they could seize from the chaos.

The schemers had played their game well, turning fear and distrust into weapons of control. In the end, the peacekeepers were enslaved, their voices silenced by the very chaos they had tried to prevent. It became clear that the schemers had never actually feared the other ship; they had sown seeds of discord solely for their own gain.
