FWIW the new M1 MacBook Air is more powerful than my old 2015 MacBook Pro (i7-4th gen, 16gb ram, Radeon gpu)
Meanwhile you can open the back panel to clean any dust stuck in the fans and would also recommend reapplying thermal paste
