je crois qu’on touche ici à la plus grande névrose de notre époque qui est le sacrifice du réel au profit du paraître

je suis persuadé que bcp de jeunes qui ont un toit, un petit capital ou une affaire au Maroc ne souffrent pas de la faim mais souffrent simplement d'un complexe d'infériorité intériorisé où la valeur d'un homme n'est plus vraiment mesurée par ce qu'il bâtit chez lui mais par la couleur du passeport dans sa poche

dans leur esprit je pense que venir en Europe pour obtenir le titre de séjour ou la nationalité européenne c'est un marqueur de caste au Maroc et c’est surtout la garantie de revenir au Maroc en devenant à leur tour des MRE et en regardant les amis d'enfance/la famille de haut tout en incarnant la réussite fantasmée à travers un sentiment de supériorité artificielle

je trouve même que c’est une sorte de tragédie intime car ces gens vont galérer en secret en Occident pour pouvoir jouer les bourgeois éphémères au pays lorsqu’ils reviennent pendant leurs vacances alors qu’initialement ils ne manquaient de rien au Maroc

ce qu'il y a de plus tragique dans cette dynamique, c'est le glissement d'une migration de survie vers une migration de statut

I remember writing an article way back for an unfortunately-defunct journal about our current similarities with the Bronze Age right before the collapse, and mentioned that the debate about Sea Peoples as a migratory vs. military force was an entirely modern framing, that it would register as the same back then, and indeed led to the same results, so what’s the point of distinguishing in terms of effects?
