Vicar of St Barnabas, Chaplain to Greenwich University, biker, internationalist. Bored with the tribal war in the church on theological lines. All views my own.
@Dr_TheHistories I saw her once on a public road near Sandringham at a roundabout. She was pulling a horse box. It was definitely her. I was nomore than 10 feet from her as I was on the roundabout first!
@talkChristianly DioLondon about 10 years ago took apart their team ministries precisely because the evidence suggested teams do not lead to growth. Not quite the same thing but analogous.
@holydisrupter@churchofengland@jordanbpeterson@owenjonesjourno The stats published are of variable relevance and robusticity. BUT taken together do portray a consistent picture.
The key problem facing the CofE is numerical decline. Therefore it should receive greatest attention at national regional and local levels. It doesn't. Why?
Great Sunday at St Barnabas Eltham with the baptism of a whole family of 5 people following the pattern in the Book of Acts. Prayers for Temilade, Esther, Nelson, Dixon and Jason. Nelson's baptism caused the cancellation of a soccer game as he is the star striker! @SouthwarkCofE
Thanks to Henwick School who have cleared, prepared and planted this area by the church door as a community project. The work done by the school parliament and Mr Taylor.
Just attended the 1230 Eucharist at @durhamcathedral advertised as for the Feast of St Bernard Mizeki.
But...absolutely no mention of Bernard...not even one word. #unimpressed.
@talkChristianly I share your feelings. The problems are much more extensive than this and extend to the content of various collects, choice of lections other liturgical practices.
@BishopSouthwark On Thursday evening in Eltham the two parishes of St Barnabas and Ss John Fisher snd Thomas Mote continue in shared ecumenical study of Life in the Spirit. Actually be studying a book by a Pentecostal writer from 1962. We then hope to follow a Pilgrimage to Pentecost.
On Thursday at 7pm we continue our Life in the Spirit seminar with prayer for a fresh outpouring of God's Spirit. Roman Catholics and Anglicans studying and praying together in SE9. Jesus is Lord!
Pray for our Life in the Spirit Seminar starting Thursday at 7pm being run jointly with Ss John Fisher and Thomas More RC Church. Evidence of the Holy Spirit drawing Christians together in fellowship and study.
We welcome @HenwickPrimary to StB today as part of Key Stage learning about the Christian faith. The class are focusing on the various parts of the building such as the font and altar to learn about how the church works.
@talkChristianly Underneath the heat of the public narrative at present lies a deeper pattern. This is a kairos moment (following Aristotle). Much will depend on the decisions made now as to future flourishing or floundering of the CofE.
This is a kairos time in the Church of England, though it is obscured by the current heat and pressure of news coverage. Aristotle defined kairos time as a significant or propitious moment. Accordingly we at StB will be supporting this prayer initiative from @ResourceARM.
Happy New Year! Throughout 2025, ReSource will be praying specifically for the renewal of the church. Join us in monthly prayer for God’s renewing work across all the churches of our nation - https://t.co/XMJ4xnuESh
