@thecyrusjanssen I live in Australia. The media here I would say fears communism/ socialism and runs a consistent criticism of it. The most outrageous of extreme expression of that fear was when our PM in the fifties, Robert Menzies, said that Australia needed to fight against the "downward..
@ProfSteveKeen I trained in physical chemistry and became acquainted with the threat of global heating when I was still a grad student at the UofQ in the last 60s. From day one the seeming inability of masses of people to hold the concept of *global* heating as distinct from daily heating...
@thecyrusjanssen The long running Israel Lobby, documented in a dense heavy going fat book by Prof John Meirsheimer looks like it's losing its grip. Netanyahu has pushed too hard and started to fracture the long running relationship?
@ProfSteveKeen Quite a few "economists" over the last few years in mainstream media about geopolitical matters I've seen two or three "experts" who've forecast that China was soon to "collapse" but their deadlines have come & gone multiple times but that doesn't faze such persons in the least.
@StevenHailAus The view of people who know what China is like 1st hand such as having migrated there like Jerry's Take on China found on YouTube is that the purpose is to bad mouth China not honest opinion. Jerry Grey has a series of presentations debunking what Western media tried to put.
@1RossGittins The underlying background economic "theory" is all wrong. NAIRU is rubbish. Neoclassical economics is rubbish. The theoretical basis of the RBA is rubbish. Management of the economy should follow Minsky's theory / MMT.
@TheAusInstitute@R_o_d_C The argu put by the Aust Inst is correct with conventional uranium nukes. There's a nearby element on the periodic table thorium can also be harnessed to fuel a nuke. That nuke doesn't have the waste problem U ones do. The technology for the Th nuke has been solved by China.
@BestStephenD@StephanieKelton Nearly finished my second reading. I think I'll buy an e-book version for my Kindle for convenient look up in the middle of the night - no need to turn the light on...
@StevenHailAus My reading says the "rest of the world" which means the non-West in my books doesn't want the USD. That's why they formed the BRICS alliance and are in the throes of setting up the NDB - New Development Bank so they can get away from the IMF & the WB which have been debt traps.
@StevenHailAus Are Anglos genetically predisposed to compete and driven to dominate? That is to work to make the lives of others is too tame a motive to do anything?
@StevenHailAus I'm re reading Stephanie Kelton's Deficit Myth and two things in chapter 1 are that Thatcher said with her greatest force was that governments don't have any money besides what they raise by taxes which is exactly backwards to what MMT says. Look everywhere & c thoughts are bakw
@elonmusk 2/ real resources and taxation is for mopping up excess liquidity to manage inflation/deflation/aggregate demand. The one resource which should not be neglected are humans. Unemployment should be seen as wastage of HR and not as punishment for laziness etc.
@elonmusk The problem with your view of the government taxes & spends is exactly back to front. Yes I'm conveying t the view of MMT, Profs Michael Hudson, Steve Keen, Stephanie Kelton and many other "rebel" economists. The fact is the fed gvt is the source of money to manage the employ/1
@1RossGittins@AlboMP Your SMH Resolv pollster show the vast majority of voters are really idiots (original sense) and are literally shifted around from here to there like the Aussie sheep dogs (so Rupert is a sheep dog?).
@StevenHailAus I'm reading Ron Paul's book End the Fed. He rages against how it abuses its power to create money out of thin air. He discusses many examples of its abuse. The US Fed is a private company and not answerable to any democratic institution. The managers understood MMT since the 30s
@Forthleft2@StevenHailAus There's 4 of them in the thread. I have no idea how X disperses postings or keeps them together. I don't like X, never have. FB is much more suitable to post even slightly longer train of thought.
@StevenHailAus 4/ and scam voters to put you in any level of power is virtually eliminated. Once you're a member of the NPPC you're amongst very canny peers. Any smart arse idea will have you turfed out in no time. There are various references & sources to fill in the myriads of details.
@StevenHailAus 3/ you can even nominate for becoming a member of national government, the national PPC, the electorates of lower levels of government must've seen fit to nominate you to the next higher level of government right up to the top. The ability of big capital to come in over the top
@StevenHailAus 2/ capital. The system in China overcomes this shortcoming not just by not allowing big capital to control the media but also the people's Congress ideas requires each member to have a proven record of serving the people before you can stand as a candidate to be elected. Before
