A year since launching The Story of Rena Stewart. I've had so much fun with it! Thanks @penswordbooks, @bletchleypark & many others. I'm giving regular talks on her amazing life - #BletchleyPark Girl, translator of Hitler's will & BBC pioneer. Let me know if you're interested!
Recent visit to @bletchleypark to talk at their International Womens Day symposium, Women Who Write History. Spoke about the remarkable Rena Stewart: Bletchley Park Girl, translator of Hitler's will, BBC pioneer, and 100-year-old feminist! #WW2#feminism
When my dearest darling mum died, she had so many beautiful clothes in her draws never worn, she had been keeping ‘for best’. On International Women’s Day …..wear those clothes every single day of your life…..even going to Tesco.

A reminder... without women, there was no Bletchley Park.
By January 1945, women made up 75% of the workforce, taking on roles across almost every level of the organisation - from operators and linguists to engineers and analysts. Their contribution reflected a wider shift across wartime Britain, where millions of women stepped into vital roles in industry and the armed forces.
Yet despite their expertise and dedication, many faced official and societal scepticism and barriers to progression - particularly in technical and senior positions.
Today, we celebrate their skill, resilience and lasting impact. Discover their stories and the difference they made by visiting Bletchley Park.

This #InternationalWomensDay (Sun 8 March) I'll be heading back to #BletchleyPark to speak at their event 'Women Who Write History'. Rena was a Bletchley Park Girl, translator of Hitler's will, feminist & fun-lover. Thanks Bletchley; I can't wait! #WW2 https://t.co/kO7NSKkx5c
@Alicelevine Hugh was perhaps best known for the diaries scandal, but his career before this was fascinating - incl. the 2 missions featured in The Story of Rena Stewart: discovering what happened to Hitler and tracking down his wills. #WW2#Hitler. https://t.co/pM8Qh788bk
A key character in Rena's biog is Hugh Trevor-Roper. British historian & Intelligence officer who mistakenly declared faked Hitler wills genuine. A great podcast on this: British Scandal: S15 E1: Hitler Diaries | Operation Green Vault | Wondery | Premium Podcasts. @Alicelevine
#Competition! Please help me share The Story of Rena Stewart (proud Scottish #feminist & #BletchleyPark Girl) via a positive review on Amazon/Waterstones/Goodreads etc. One lucky reviewer will win this beautiful #Suffragette scarf by @MinistryTartan. https://t.co/pM8Qh77AlM
Delighted return to the National Army Museum this Sunday to interview Dermot Turing (Alan Turing's nephew) about his brilliant new book, Misread Signals. Find out about how history overlooked women codebreakers. Part of the #ChelseaHistoryFestival. @ChelseaHistFest@NAM_London
It was a pleasure to be interviewed recently by my friend, writer Anna Tuckett, about The Story of Rena Stewart, for her excellent Substack, A Plate of Pierogi. It's worth signing up to this - she writes and curates so well. Every installation is a joy to read.
Happy Friday! This week, I’m very excited to share my first interview, the first of many, I hope. I spoke to @VicWalshWrites about her biography of Rena Stewart - if you’ve never heard of Rena, you’re in for a treat. I really enjoyed this conversation and hope you will, too. 1/2
