I don't know why "worst movie" is trending but we watched the SECOND worst movie I've ever seen on the Best of the Worst episode that's coming out real soon. Worst movie I've ever seen is an obscure little fart called Science Crazed. No contest.
10 - final) And even achieving the world’s first director credit using his PhD designation! We’ll miss you, Ray Ramayya, forever in our hearts! Rest In Peace.
10) Ray, like the story of Ryan’s Babe itself, often took the road less travelled but ended up where he was destined, against all odds, as a shining star in the world of film telling tales that have reached and entertained thousands,
9) Ray, in real life, was just as important of a man; to us, his family, and his friends, bringing that same joy and zest for life to all that he did and inspiring the creativity in his family and those around him.
8) We are forever grateful to Ray for making Ryan’s Babe, as without it there’d be no Videonomicon. It’s such an important film for us, and brings so much joy to all those who’ve experienced it.
7) And he was floored and enamoured by the audience reaction & traction Ryan’s Babe gained over the last 7 years since its re-release. We distinctly remember he was truly speechless and grinning from ear to ear after our hometown re-release premiere, a moment we’ll never forget.
6) Ray was full of joy and was always giddy when we talked about film and his time behind the camera, and he truly was very proud of his work and the people who helped him make his films over the years.
5) Ray strived and achieved more than most by taking his silver-screen dreams and making them a reality, especially overcoming the hurdles of making cinema, as well as television content, in a place that was far from both Toronto and Vancouver.
4) From the hour-long Canadian TV movie Jenny (1992), about a First Nations musician pursuing fame, to Seetha & Carole (1998), an adoption drama shot both in Canada and India, to what is easily Ray’s most well-known film Ryan’s Babe (2000).
3). Ray many passions in life and was an avid filmmaker. And it is as this film maker that we at Videonomicon know Ray best, and Ray was a trailblazer in the Saskatchewan film industry and one of the first filmmakers to actually make locally produced 35mm feature films in SK.
2) Penumaka Dasaratha “Ray” Ramayya was born in July 1940 in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, India. Ray received his undergraduate degree in India and completed his masters and PhD in Canada.
1) It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Ray Ramayya, the visionary behind “Ryan’s Babe”. Ray passed away early in the morning last Friday February 19th, 2021 at the age of 81. We send our sincerest condolences to his family and friends.
