What is the true economic value of UK higher education - and why does it matter? https://t.co/SwvvIB6hcJ via @wonkhe
@FondOfBeetles@frankie2001mia@British_Airways Yes, a very thoughtful response on your part. Expressed much of how I would have felt... A very difficult situation for the airline and their staff to handle. One of those ' very difficult to see how an accommodation or compromise could be made' situations.
@michaelpforan I went through that type of tutorial system ( York, 1980s.)Usually 2 students in a weekly tutorial. If there was an odd number involved, volunteers for 1:1 were sought...(I volunteered as a way of making myself do the required work ha ha.) Assumed it had long gone everywhere.
1/Talking Poetry and Publishing World: The 2025 Plaza Prizes seem to have completely imploded. Allegedly run out of money. Award Ceremony? “Postponed”, Print Anthology? “Maybe an E-book” The company under notice of being compulsorily struck off the Companies House Register…
@paullewismoney Spot on.The article highlights that the properties in this article are priced much higher than others in the area. So they won't sell. People need to be realistic. Also it's a very different property market to the UK. If you buy wisely, it might hold its value.Don't expect more.
Fundamental point: the graduate earnings premium is not really measuring anything to do with higher education or graduates.
It’s measuring “how well-paid are your high-earners (which tends to be where your graduates are) relative to lower-earners?”
@wmarybeard@PaulKetchley49 It can't be a real University PI because the labour market is outside University control. The University can't provide the jobs. It can only deliver the education. So to some extent prospective students may be misled. For many a University degree may really not be worth the cost
@wmarybeard@PaulKetchley49 Part of the problem is that many universities themselves foolishly bought into that story (graduate salaries being a PI for an individual university) and actively promulgated it, overemphasising the graduate premium as a measurement of their own value, when it really isn't.
Young Afghan woman: "If you're a woman and you have a toothache, you CANNOT get treated... Women are denied the right to education and cannot become dentists; and men are NOT allowed to treat women."
Am a proud sister of @grainnekelly9 who got some well-deserved recognition last night. Over 30 years in the security industry, starting way back when women in Security were "as rare as hens' teeth". From her UK colleagues. @SecuritasUK@MickeyKelly10
Can't help being a proud auntie to Aaron McVeigh... @grainnekelly9
