Ever wondered why publishing scientific research feels like a one-sided affair? Researchers pay to publish, peer reviewers work for free, and readers pay to read. What's going on here?

The current model sees 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 shelling out hefty fees to get their work published. It's a costly endeavor – imagine shelling out thousands of dollars per paper – a significant burden on academic budgets, particularly in lower and middle-income economies where currency discrepancies magnify the impact. While authors of books get royalty, there is no such concept for research publications.

Then come the unsung heroes: 𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀. These experts dedicate their time and expertise to ensure research quality, and yet, they aren't paid for their critical role and are taken for granted.

𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 aren't spared either. Accessing these research papers often requires expensive subscriptions or pay-per-paper access fees, creating a barrier for the public and hindering the very purpose of scientific inquiry – sharing knowledge. A young talented researcher or clinician, especially in a developing country, hits a paywall everytime they need to access a research publication thereby hindering knowledge dissemination and learning.
