This article is so well written. And this line “the new yorker article questioned why Argentina couldn’t be as ‘likable’ as the Japanese cleaning the stadium or the friendly South Koreans” made me want to throw up at the new yorker even more. the orientalism is off the charts… I wonder if the writer has ever seen what some Japanese women’s comments on this? how come these men can clean up after themselves perfectly well in a stadium abroad, yet back home expect women to serve their meals and refuse to do their share of the housework? these western audiences eat these images up, turning asian people into some kind of exotic spectacle to admire from a distance “likable,” “adorable.” It’s incredibly patronizing.
I want everyone to remember that Leo Messi arrived at Inter Miami when they were dead last, sitting 15th in the Eastern Conference.
Three years later, he’s led them to FIVE trophies. 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
