Authors. Your writing is supposed to take readers out of the words and into the story.
Why then do you use tricks like italics, bold, colors and whatever else? I find this distracting. #justsaying Who agrees?
Imagine remembering a place you've never visited.
A face you've never seen.
A crime you never committed.

@hwjohnston7 100% Agree. Characters being the same over time could be seen as bad or lacking character development. But let's keep an open mind to the fact that sometimes characters can also 'shrink' over time, and not always grow. Think someone progressively more ill...

Tip for Authors :
Use a Read Aloud function in your word processor. Close your eyes and only listen to your own words. Allow your mind to drift off into the story.
If the words make you trip at any point, there's something wrong. Stop and fix it immediately. Self editing!
