@jayrosenkrantz Of course good AI companions are a question of when, not if, but you're right that maybe we need more than what's effectively fancy auto-complete to fully encapsulate human thought π
@acsider @LKrauss1@sherlockmichael@elonmusk There's quite the mountain of lies, scandals and just general terrible behavior, I don't really need to cherrypick much.
@LKrauss1@teapot_russells@elonmusk And also whether they'll work hard to fulfil their promises vs. whether they say whatever to get elected and have zero follow-up.
@RichardHeartWin Well, it does seem very convenient that he got shot exactly in a way that leaves him pretty much unscathed. Probably going to help his chances a lot. Could be a setup, ya know... he is a known con artist after all.
@NickHudsonCT@RichardDawkins Well, the reverse is way more true. We have examples of how single cells are not conscious, yet enough cells working together at some point develop consciousness. I have no idea why this would be impossible for non-biological structures.
@NickHudsonCT@RichardDawkins Well that's quite a leap... we already don't understand all the emergent properties our AI's have today, so obviously we're capable of creating things we don't fully understand.
@Markus_Krall@RichardDawkins "The ability to be a self" is just a very vague and imprecise way of communicating exactly which algorithms we run that make us "conscious". Because we don't know. But there's nothing special about us in that sense.
@elonmuskPOTUX@RichardDawkins Or it just pops out as an emergent property once a certain complexity is reached... probably much like it happens in animals.
@bluedotdweller @david_kipping Well, it would make some sense that independent evolutionary paths towards intelligence would share similar traits, right? It could easily be true that there's many different ways to evolve it, but there's also a lot of evolutionary dead ends.
@SokchoChicken @kenlipartito @JohnDSailer I wish you'd respond to the actual things I write instead of having your judgment/opinion ready and regurgitating the same points over and over in an increasingly condescending way.
@SokchoChicken @kenlipartito @JohnDSailer Wow it's so exhausting to talk to people who keep putting words into your mouth and assuming your intentions are bad... not very open-minded, ironically. GL with that. I think you can block me now and pretend you "won", whatever that means.
@SokchoChicken @kenlipartito @JohnDSailer You'd want math teachers to dilute their time/energy and put a lot of effort in to this, or do you want them to teach good math?
If certain groups are struggling they should get extra support, but probably not force that responsibility on random teachers?
