Sometimes you’re just singing your life… and years later, someone reminds you it became part of theirs. What a beautiful thing to get to know while you’re still here to receive it.

And to share all of this with my beautiful daughter, @syraismith … my heart walking beside me, making a new memory while so many old ones came home. That is the part I’ll hold closest.

The last time I was at the US Open was in 2002, watching #VenusandSerena face each other in that historic final.

More than two decades later, I returned with my beautiful daughter, @syraismith ….and time felt like it folded into grace, fun, joy, and so much laughter. 🎾💛⭐️🎾

We are both tennis players and lovers of the game….🎾#VenusandSerena have always been more than champions to us. They are possibility in motion…faith, family, discipline and greatness made visible.

To know them, love them and continue rooting for every chapter of their journey is such a blessing.

We watched incredible players, met beautiful fans and shared the sweetest day together. God is so good. 💡💡💡

Before the world knew how to speak about representation, you had already turned it into sound.

Your history is filled with firsts…the first Asian woman to win a Tony Award, a Disney Legend, and now the first Filipina ever honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

But “first” is not the deepest word in your story.

The deepest word is “after.”

Who could dream after you?

Who could enter after you?

Who could walk through because you left the doorway open?

You did not merely become possible.

You made possibility contagious.

Having the blessing of singing A Whole New World beside you, I stopped being the singer and became the witness.
The world knows the gold in your voice. I had the blessing of discovering the gold in your heart.

Hollywood gave you a star…but that star did not make you light.
It simply told the ground what the sky has always known.

There are dreams… and then there are moments that feel as though they were written in the stars long before you ever arrived. ✨👑🩵🩵

To become a @disney Disney Princess was already beyond anything my younger self could have imagined. But to now stand among the beautiful legacy of Disney Princesses, to know that I am forever a part of this magical family, is something I will never take for granted.

And there is an even deeper meaning for me.

To have been the first Black Cinderella, and to know that the door we walked through helped make the kingdom wider for the beautiful Black princesses who would come after me, is one of the greatest honors of my life.

What Whitney Houston @whitneyhouston and Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella gave us was bigger than a movie. We showed a generation of little Black girls that the glass slipper could fit them, too. That they could be soft and powerful. Regal and magical. Seen, celebrated, chosen, and centered in the fairytale.

And then came more history. @anikaaroundtheworld Anika Noni Rose gave us the beautiful Princess Tiana. Halle Bailey @hallebailey brought a new generation under the sea as Ariel.

And today, I get to look around at this ever-expanding kingdom and feel the magnitude of what representation can become when one door opens… and we keep holding it open for one another. 👑🩵🩵🩵

From Cinderella at 18 to Queen Cinderella today, this journey continues to feel like divine poetry.

I once stepped into a glass slipper.

I could never have imagined the footprints it would leave behind.

Thank you, Disney, for allowing me to live inside the magic, and for letting that magic keep growing. ✨🏰👑🩵🩵🩵
