While everyone is focused on the ICE shooting in Austin, the City Council is quietly spending an insane amount of taxpayer money on lawyers to fight deportations.

It's tucked into Thursday's consent agenda so it can pass without a word of debate or controversy.

The money goes to two nonprofits, American Gateways and Catholic Charities, to provide what the City's own documents call "deportation defense."

It pays for:

1. Lawyers representing "detained and non-detained immigrants," including people ICE is actively trying to remove.

2. Coaching immigrants representing themselves in immigration court, helping them file motions and meet deadlines to stay in the country.

3. Legal work that helps immigrants obtain work permits.

4. Federal immigration filing fees.

Total bill to be approved: $854,872

City staff list one of the program's goals as helping clients "obtain and maintain public benefits."

Austin has already paid American Gateways $3.4 million since 2019, and after Thursday the four contracts will be authorized for up to $6.7 million.

Washington State was awarded $181.3 million ($181,257,515) for fiscal year 2026 under the federal Rural Health Transformation Program. 

That program was created by the budget reconciliation law signed July 4, 2025 (often called the “One Big Beautiful Bill” or H.R. 1 / Public Law 119-21). It provides $50 billion nationwide over five years ($10 billion per year, FY 2026–2030) to support rural hospitals, workforce, technology, chronic disease and behavioral health, maternal care, and related services. 

Half of each year’s pot is split equally among approved states; the other half is allocated by CMS based on rural population, facilities, state policies, and proposed plans. Washington applied for $200 million per year and received a first-year award close to that figure. Amounts for later years can be adjusted.

Governor Ferguson’s office and the Washington State Health Care Authority announced the award at the end of December 2025. The state is now deciding how to distribute the funds across its 22 fully rural counties and rural portions of the remaining counties.

Gov. Ferguson says I-001 “removes parents rights to be immediately notified when their child is a victim of a crime at school.” Only one problem, that’s utter bullshit.

I-001 says patents:
“To receive IMMEDIATE NOTIFICATION if a criminal action is deemed to have been committed against their child or by their child.”

The No campaign tries to get around those inconvenient words by arguing that the word “deemed” could somehow mean parents wait days, weeks, or even months.

Based on what? They provide no evidence other than irrational fear mongering. I-001 creates no waiting period. “Deemed” does not mean convicted, charged, or even investigated. And I-001 does not repeal WAs separate mandatory reporting and child safety laws.

I know this issue well, I wrote the amendment that put the immediate notification language in current law after Democrats fought my effort to require immediate notification and tried to allow up to 48 hours to tell parents if a teacher raped your child.

That fight went national for weeks, and only after a huge fight did they begrudgingly accept my amendment.

Saying the initiative “removes” immediate notification when it literally says IMMEDIATE NOTIFICATION is not an honest description of what voters are being asked to decide.

So spare me the newfound concern about immediate parental notification while simultaneously arguing against more parental notification. It’s also crazy to watch the No campaign test that message out while basing their entire campaign on the notion that it’s unsafe to tell parents things about their own kids.

These same people leave kids in fentanyl filled tent encampments with their drug abusing parents to be abused and even die. And they have the nerve to talk about protecting kids from abuse? 🤯🤯🤯

That my friends is insane, and their new reach on the immediate notification is not only disingenuous, it’s desperate.

Read the initiative, don’t fall for the spin.

Take it from the guy who wrote that provision into law, I’m voting yes on I-001 and parents will be notified immediately.

The city of Spokane is refusing to waive demolition permit fees for fire victims. After losing EVERYTHING, victims have to pay $500 to cap the water and sewer lines under their burned out house. What the fuck is the point of paying taxes? Just like California, Washington uses taxpayer dollars to buy crackpipes and heroin needles for unemployed homeless drug zombies, but when you, the working class taxpayer, lose everything you have through no fault of your own, you still have to pay for this?

These city leaders are so fucking petty they'll still force fire victims to pay $35 for permission to demolish their own destroyed home. Why? You couldn't just waive it? For $35? Yeah, it's not a lot of money, but that actually makes it worse...forcing a fire victim to cough up a meager sum that in NO way actually funds the process in any meaningful way just shows that you are doing it out of spite. Just a nice little "fuck you" to the peasants.

Additionally, the state of Washington is forcing fire victims to pay sales tax to replace the items they lost in the fire. Again...why? The state was never factoring in that revenue...it never existed on the balance sheet BUT for the fire. Government is collecting a windfall from people's LOSSES. There's literally zero need to collect taxes on shit that people already owned.

Back during the mid 90's floods, the state legislature passed a sales tax exemption for victims replacing their stuff. If they don't do this in their next leg session, they all need to go. The one thing WA did is cut property tax on their burned out homes, which is the absolute least they could do.

You assholes never maintain your forests, everybody lost everything, their pets burned alive, and now you're going tack on an extra 9.1% to the cost of rebuilding their lives...for what? Not to mention the fact that a couch today costs probably 2x as much as when they first bought the one they just lost. I fucking hate these people, man.

NEW: DHS confirms that a semi-truck driver arrested for killing two people in a multi-car crash in Southern California is an Indian illegal alien who was caught and released at the AZ border by the Biden admin & given a commercial driver's license (CDL) by the state of California. DHS says Chamkaur Singh was arrested by police in Moab, UT during a traffic stop after it was revealed he had a nationwide futile arrest warrant for homicide - vehicular manslaughter, in relation to a deadly crash he was involved in Ontario, CA in March in which he crashed into multiple cars, killing two people in separate vehicles.

DHS says Singh's California CDL remains active despite having multiple driving convictions on his CDL record for improper lane or location, following too closely, and speeding. ICE has placed a detainer on Singh with local law enforcement in Utah.

DHS statement: “This illegal alien from India is accused of��causing a semi-truck crash that killed two people in California,” said DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin. “Due to the Biden Administration’s open borders and Gavin Newsom’s sanctuary policies, this criminal was released into our country and granted a commercial driver’s license. Despite having three convictions on his driving record, his CDL is still active."
