Setting a New Standard for my Art on Bitcoin

As I’ve watched my peers share and discuss their recent adventures and discoveries on other chains, it has made me think about why that doesn’t appeal to me, and more importantly, why Ordinals does.

There is incredible technology within Ordinals, and I’ve made extensive use of it throughout my journey on Bitcoin. But the more I’ve reflected on what keeps me here, the more I’ve realised that some of that technology can actually dilute the thing that originally drew me to Bitcoin in the first place.

So, ahead of sharing the future direction of my art and creative journey in the coming days, I want to establish the standard I will be creating within from this point forward.

The Standard

- All pieces will be natively inscribed.
I will not be using delegates or recursion. As much as we like to say that we own the artwork, or that it is inscribed on a particular sat, the reality can be that the sat is pointing to other inscriptions that hold the data, or parts of the data, that you do not actually own.
- Every piece will be unique.
If you are given a piece or purchase one, that artwork is yours. If I choose to release an edition, every individual piece will still be unique, both in its artwork and its metadata.
- Every piece will be inscribed by me to my origin wallet.
- Every piece will exist within my parent-child structure.
Where appropriate, upon completion, parents will be burned to permanently seal individual sections of the work.
- Every piece will be inscribed at print-ready quality.
- Every piece will contain complete metadata.
This will include, where applicable, aspect ratio, resolution, PPI, medium, software and platforms used, file type, title, description, distribution method, and any other information necessary to properly document the work.

This isn't an attack on the incredible things people can do with Ordinals.

Since their inception, I’ve always been fascinated by what is possible.

I sold out a collection before we had wallet support or a marketplace. I introduced on-chain reveals. I created Ordinals that dynamically changed when they were sold. I put galleries and art creation suites inside Ordinals. I escaped iframes and sandboxes. I helped bring some of the most technologically ambitious projects to Bitcoin.

For a long time, that was the thrill.

What can we make it do?

And the answer eventually became almost anything.

Today, I can put essentially anything on an Ordinal for almost no cost. And while that still excites me, reaching that point has changed what I want for my work.

When almost anything is possible, possibility itself stops being the destination.

What I want now is something more refined. Something closer to the thing that originally sold me on Ordinals in the first place:

Art, natively inscribed on Bitcoin.

Not pointing somewhere else.
Not assembled from somewhere else.
Not dependent on something else continuing to exist.

I want to see what I can create when I choose to do less, but make every part of it matter.

GM Ordinals

Next week we unveil and get people hands on with how we plan to unite our ecosystems and how we refocus on community, how we engage with and how that community engages with each other.

It will also serve as a line in the sand for me as a creator, serving as a before and after point as i will also be sharing the future direction of my art, what and how ill be creating and why moving forward.

Im excited to leave behind a dark period in my life and use my passion in more focussed ways.
