A 21-year-old man, Ajit Baraya, from Mandla fell seriously ill on July 26.

His father called an ambulance and specifically requested oxygen, saying Ajit was struggling to breathe.

The ambulance arrived with an oxygen cylinder, but it was not administered.

Ajit was first taken to a Primary Health Centre and then referred to Mandla District Hospital.

During the transfer, in the same ambulance the medical staff finally put him on oxygen.

About 3 km into the journey, the oxygen cylinder ran empty.

Ajit gasped for breath in his parents' arms as the ambulance continued towards the district hospital.

He died before reaching the hospital.

His father alleged that his son would have survived if oxygen had been available throughout the journey.
