YEH NAYAN DARE DARE The most underrated romantic gem of Hemant Da*
1964. Film: Kohraa A suspense thriller starring Biswajeet and Waheeda Rehman, directed by Biren Nag - the same team that gave us the superhit Bees Saal Baad (1962).
But Kohraa was different. It was not a village haveli story. It was India's adaptation of Hitchcock's Rebecca - a newly married bride entering an eerie mansion haunted by the memory of her husband's mysterious first wife. For that first wife's all-white room, Biren Nag, who was Guru Dutt's art director for CID and Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam ,built a legendary all-white set at Rajkamal Kalamandir that producers used to drive down just to see.
And right in the middle of this fog -Kohraa - literally means fog Hemant Kumar placed a moment of pure, daring romance.
As both Producer and Music Director, Hemant Da gave us Kaifi Azmi's intoxicating words in his own deep velvet voice:
Yeh nayan dare dare, yeh jaam bhare bhare
Zara peene do...
Kal ki kisko khabar, ek raat hoke nidar
Mujhe jeene do...
Some trivia
Biswajeet has said, "During Bees Saal Baad I was new and uncomfortable in front of Waheeda, who was already a big star. By Kohraa, the chemistry was better."
The tune was not new. It was Hemant Da's own Bengali classic Ei Raat Tomar Amar from Deep Jwele Jai 1959) with Suchitra Sen. He recreated the same haunting magic in Hindi.
And the most important trivia is that
The song was so loved that Lata Mangeshkar later included it in her tribute album Shraddhanjali to Hemant Da, and Jagjit Singh covered it in his own inimitable style. Biswajeet says, "Even today, wherever I go, people ask me to croon it."
No loud orchestra. No high notes. Just a waltz-like rhythm, a whisper, and a philosophy - live this one night fearlessly, because who knows about tomorrow?
If you haven't heard it late at night on headphones, driving, you haven't really lived the 60s.

28th Sept 1907... 119 years since Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh was born.
And today I am sharing a song that has haunted India for 60 years.
“Ae watan, ae watan, humko teri kasam" from Manoj Kumar's Shaheed (1965)
This was not just another film. This was the film that gave Manoj Kumar the title "Bharat Kumar".
Shot in black & white at a time when colour was already in, made on a shoestring budget, directed by S. Ram Sharma and written by Manoj Kumar himself. It won the National Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi. Manoj Kumar also won National Award for Best Writing.
When the awards were given in Delhi, Manoj Kumar brought Shaheed Bhagat Singh's mother Vidyavati ji on stage. The entire hall gave a standing ovation for 15 minutes. Prime Minister Indira Gandhi touched her feet. The prize money was handed over to her.
And the movie:
It shows not just the revolutionary Bhagat Singh of guns and Assembly bombing, but the thinker Bhagat Singh - who went on a 116-day hunger strike in Lahore Jail for the rights of political prisoners. Prem Chopra plays Sukhdev and Pran in a rare positive role, plays Ram Prasad Bismil. This film brought Kamini Kaushal back to cinema.
And this song ..
Music and Lyrics both by Prem Dhawan, a rare feat. Sung by Mohd. Rafi.
The magic of this soundtrack is that all legends sang together:
Mohd Rafi - Ae Watan
Manna Dey, Rafi & Rajendra Mehta - Sarfaroshi ki tamanna (composed in Raag Darbari)
Mukesh, Mahendra Kapoor, Rajendra Bhatia - Mera Rang De Basanti Chola
Rafi sahab's line still gives goosebumps:
Phool kya cheez hai tere qadmon pe hum, bhent apne saron ki chadha jaayenge
The fire he lit still burns...

An Extraterrestrial "Snowman" 🪨
This chain of three impact craters is located on the asteroid Vesta. The largest, named "Marcia," has a diameter of 60 kilometers. The second largest is the 50-kilometer-wide "Calpurnia," while the smallest—measuring 22 kilometers across—is called "Minucia." It is believed that the two large craters formed when a binary object collided with Vesta, whereas the small crater is much younger and formed at a later time.

Because for any sadhana to succeed, one requires to do that stotra/ mantra/ whatever for X times a day at the SAME day, SAME time, SAME place and SAME direction WITH Brahmacharya for Y number of days.
If X becomes even X-1 quantity or Y becomes Y-1 quantity, the thing will fail to ignite what is needed to allow the mantra/ stotra to work.
And most people cannot maintain Brahmacharya for even 3 or 7 days and hence mostly nobody succeeds.
Hence you don’t see many people use the basics of Hinduism to advance themselves in their life.
But occasionally you will find some sadhaka who shows the spark in real life (I mean real life not social media creations as elaborated earlier).
Puja in general is good but it’s slow progress over maybe 5-10 years.

This track from Doosra Aadmi , 1977 is one of the rare and celebrated masterpieces that brings together three of India's greatest playback legends: Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, and Mohammed Rafi.
The music was composed by Rajesh Roshan, who masterfully transitioned the song's tempo to map the characters' psychological shifts—moving from slow to medium-paced, skyrocketing during Rafi's segment, and then calming back down to close with Kishore and Lata. Rajesh Roshan famously integrated electronic rhythm structures alongside traditional instruments, which was highly innovative for 1977.
It starts as a breezy, upbeat melody sung by Kishore Kumar (picturized on Rishi Kapoor) and Lata Mangeshkar (picturized on Raakhee ).
Mid-way through, the mood changes dramatically when Rafi enters. (Picturised on Shashi Kapoor) .
Rafi's soulful and high-tempo rendition shifts the track entirely. This "late entry" is highly regarded by music critics as one of the most impactful vocal entrances in Hindi cinema history.

Dil Tera Deewana Hai Sanam (1962) When Shammi Kapoor's Yahoo Era Became Immortal
Everyone remembers Dil Tera Deewana Hai Sanam as the ultimate Shammi Kapoor romantic anthem. But to understand its magic, you have to understand where Shammi was in 1962.
The revolution had started five years earlier. Before Tumsa Nahin Dekha in 1957, the Hindi film hero was tragic, restrained, hands in pockets. Nasir Hussain, O P Nayyar and Rafi gave Shammi a new identity “Yahoo” the energetic, rebellious Elvis of India. That was cemented by Dil Deke Dekho in 1959 and became a national craze with Junglee in 1961.
Dil Tera Diwana in 1962 was the film that solidified that identity and added maturity to the masti.
The film was directed by the legendary South Indian filmmaker B R Panthulu of Padmini Pictures. It was actually a remake of the Tamil superhit Sabaash Meena from 1958. Interestingly it was made in black and white in 1962, at a time when colour had already arrived as Shammi's own Junglee was in colour.
The story is pure fun. Rich and brash Mohan, played by Shammi, is sent by his angry father to retired Army Captain Dayaram, played by Om Prakash, to learn discipline. He cleverly switches places with his friend Anokhe, played by Mehmood. While Anokhe lands up at the Captain's house romancing his daughter Malti, played by Shubha Khote, Mohan meets Meena, played by Mala Sinha, daughter of a blind man, and falls in love. Add Pran as the villain and you get three Mohans arrested at the climax.
Why this song is a masterclass !!!
First, the Mehmood versus Shammi cold war. In those days critics wrote openly that Mehmood gave jitters to lead heroes. He was so popular that distributors demanded him in films. In Dil Tera Diwana he is absolutely irrepressible. For Shammi to hold his own in the same frame, he had to go full throttle, and he did. That healthy competition is what gives this film its energy.
Second, the Shankar Jaikishan magic. 1962 was an incredibly tough year for music - Professor, Bees Saal Baad, Anpadh, Ek Musafir Ek Hasina, Asli Naqli all had iconic music. Shankar Jaikishan were at their absolute peak. For this song, lyrics by Shailendra, music by Shankar Jaikishan, and sung by Mohammed Rafi and Lata Mangeshkar. Rafi did not just sing, he became Shammi. Listen to the way he throws the line Bijli gira ke aap khud bijli se dar gaye - that playful toss of words is pure Shammi's head shake and shoulder shrug.
Third, the Mala Sinha factor. Mala was known as a serious dramatic actress from films like Dhool Ka Phool and Anpadh. Opposite Shammi's flamboyance, her restrained grace created the perfect balance. She later said Shammi was the most difficult co-star to dance with because he never did the rehearsed steps, he improvised.
Fourth, the six minute romance. At six minutes and two seconds, Dil Tera Deewana Hai Sanam was unusually long for that era. It was a full romantic journey - from teasing to intoxication to surrender. The choreography was not really choreography, it was Shammi being allowed to just be Shammi.
Some lines that still live
Raah mein kho jayenge aaj toh
Manzil kahaan hai hamein kya khabar
This was not just a song. It was the declaration of the sixties youth - carefree, in love, and not caring where the road leads.
If Tumsa Nahin Dekha gave Shammi his identity, Dil Tera Deewana Hai Sanam gave that identity its most romantic, most timeless signature.
Do you remember the first time you saw Shammi do that step on Mohabbat ki kasam?

No they do not worship a gender
Just like we do not worship a gender in Janmashtami or shivratri or In Chaturthi
We worship shakti which none of you are.
A Pura bhakta dose not care about what some random joker like you will think
The rational framework is built on the understanding that all that we know of the world comes through our five senses, and it is limited. There are other instruments of perception. The third eye is the eye of wisdom, connected to the heart. When you see with your heart, the whole framework changes. The Upanishads declare that the Ultimate is where the mind cannot reach, but it is because of that, that the mind gets its capacity to think. When the mind settles down, when it understands this and is aware of its limits then it is called surrender. Surrender is not to any person or being.
