Spreading false narratives and defamatory claims regarding the DMK administration and government procurement procedures is completely unacceptable.
According to data from India’s Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA), the average retail price of genuine Tur Dal was ₹122.80/kg in May (during the DMK tender period), and it increased to ₹124.82/kg in September (during the TVK tender period). When the market price of Tur Dal was higher, the procurement at ₹77.89/kg indicates that the product supplied was likely the cheaper imported Yellow Lentil or a mixed lentil product.
As per the usual TNCSC tender conditions, contractors are permitted to supply cheaper imported Canadian Yellow Lentils (with a wholesale market price of ₹60–₹80/kg) instead of 100% indigenous Tur Dal (Fatka Tur Dal). Changing the variety of the product to reduce the contract value cannot be considered administrative savings; it amounts to a change in the nature of the product itself.
Comparing procurement prices without understanding the actual market trading conditions and government procurement rules can lead to misleading narratives. Claiming a “saving” of ₹31 per kg reflects a lack of understanding of basic trade.
