I am inviting 1-to-1 music teachers & their students (age 16+) to join an exciting new study exploring how the teacher-musician relationship impacts performance & wellbeing. By giving 20 minutes of time, you'll help shape future training, making a huge difference in our field
Have a listen to my supervisor’s thoughts on why England mens footy team is not doing so well. Her research explores the impact of coach-athlete relationships. I am adapting this research into music teachers and musicians. Where might this take the conversation in music?
While the reasons for the underperformance of the #EnglandEuro2024 football team have revolved around selections, formations, tactics and the like, my hypothesis focuses more on the interpersonal aspects between coach/es and players & the social environment within they operate ⬇️
Swap athlete for musician, would retiring the word talent make for more inclusive selection of young musicians onto pathways and would it help us to change the (narrow?) way we deliver music education? Fascinating paper

@Jamesedpoole Congratulations James. I will read this with interest. I have just started a PhD looking at the quality of music teacher-musician relationship and the impact on performance and wellbeing. I imagine they’re may be some parallels.
In London, fostering a unique research partnership between @LboroSSEHS@guildhallschool meeting colleagues and doctoral researchers.

And those in the industry complaining that the elitism argument of classical music continues…this type of thing is the reason.
