Lira City West Division Mayor H/W Emmanuel Ebong Opeto, Deputy RCC Joan Apio and DPC ASP Allan Okello are meeting Barapwo residents at Barapwo HC III grounds to address growing concerns over rising crime rates, and to strengthen community security.
"Sometimes it's difficult to distinguish a registered boda boda rider from a regular rider. That's why we are regulating the sector through registration and the issuance of identification stickers.
Some riders get involved in unlawful activities and abandon their motorcycles before fleeing. Others may operate from outside Lira City.
With registration and stickers, it becomes easier to identify genuine boda boda operators and improve accountability." - Mr. Okello Nelson, Principal Revenue Officer, Lira City Council.

UPDATE: Uganda Peoples Congress(UPC) faction Leader Denis Adim Enap has set 25th July, 2026 as the date for the party's delegates conference.
According to a notice issued on the 8th June 2026, signed by Adim Enap, the delegates conference will be held at Christ the King Church Hall, Kampala.
Matters that will be discussed include; cooperation between UPC and NRM, ammendment of the party Constitution and approval of the party cabinet.

A new chapter in youth financial empowerment has begun with the launch of Sente Hub at the @firdug2015 Offices in Lira City.
The initiative provides a safe and inclusive space where young people can learn financial discipline, make informed financial decisions, and build pathways toward safe money, safe work, and a safe future.
Speaking during the launch, Isaac from Makers Space led an engaging and interactive session on the implementation of a Social Behaviour Change Strategy aimed at promoting responsible financial practices among the youth.
The session challenged participants to rethink their spending habits, embrace saving and investment cultures, and protect themselves from risky financial choices that often undermine their future prospects.
Sente Hub is expected to become a key platform for nurturing financially responsible, productive, and resilient young people across the region.

This brings the total number of suspects in custody to eight (8) as investigations into the alleged mob killing continue.
The suspects are identified as:

• Twinomujuni Herbert
• Katsigazi Perigrino

UPDATE: Former Uganda Peoples Congress Presidential candidate Denis Adim Enap has named a new cabinet.
According to a cabinet list dated 4th June, 2026, signed by Adim Enap, Moses Higenyi has been appointed the vice President, while Tom Omino has been appointed the party's Secretary General.
Isaac Ojok Anok has been named deputy national secretary for Mobilisation.
Adim says the UPC cabinet and secretariat staff were appointed pursuant to the party Constitution , article 14.
Breaking: Oyam South MP Patrick Ogwang Obura (@obura_hon) has been elected as the new Chairperson for Lango Parliamentary Group (LPG). Hon.Ogwang polled 11 votes while his closest challenger Dr Samuel Opio Acuti, the Kole North MP got 09 votes.

UPDATE: @Parliament_Ug will convene this week on Thursday, 28th May 2026, at 2pm to consider for approval, appointment of the Vice President, Rtd Maj. Jessica Rose Alupo Epel as Vics President and Robinah Nabbanja as Prime Minister according to the Order Paper.
Parliament will also designate Members to the different Standing Committees.
