A proud Igbo son graduating from the University of Calgary proudly represented his heritage during his graduation ceremony.

He took a moment to greet all the faculties and departments at the university in Igbo, ending with the iconic chant, “Igbo Kwenu!”

“Stop Destroying Our Goods.”

Traders at the Onitsha Main Market were seen removing their goods, products and personal belongings as demolition continued in parts of the market.

The exercise is being carried out following the directive of Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, as part of efforts to restructure and reorganise the Onitsha Main Market, including clearing spaces obstructing walkways and improving the market’s overall layout.

Kidnappers holding Chief Sir Joseph Ezeokafor, Chairman of Jezco Group and father of businessman Jowizaza, have reportedly increased their ransom demand from ₦700 million to ₦1.5 billion.

Ezeokafor was reportedly abducted in the early hours of Tuesday, August 4, after leaving his residence for a prayer ground without his security personnel.

According to a source close to the family, the kidnappers initially demanded ₦700 million, which the family reportedly agreed to pay as part of efforts to secure his release. The demand was later increased to ₦1.5 billion.

The family is reportedly still willing to negotiate, but the kidnappers have allegedly stopped communicating, further complicating efforts to secure his safe return.

Alex Onyia, CEO of EduCare, is using the holiday period to expose children to practical engineering and technology through hands-on drone training, learning skills ranging from welding electronic components and 3D printing to programming microcontrollers, connecting sensors and actuators, and using buck converters for voltage regulation.

Their teacher, Chizoba, who graduated First Class in Mechatronics Engineering with a CGPA of 4.96/5, is guiding them through the practical sessions.

The goal is simple: move beyond certificates and equip children with skills they can actually use.

Kudos to @winexviv for giving these children an opportunity to learn beyond the classroom and discover what they are capable of.

Richard Abraham once represented Aguata Zone at the Anambra State level of the 2021 Governor’s Debate, where he reportedly distinguished himself as one of the standout speakers.

His performance was said to have earned him recognition from then Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, who reportedly addressed him as “Honourable.”

However, after the competition, Richard’s life took a difficult turn. He lost his mother following a brief illness, and the tragedy left him unable to continue his education.

According to his former teacher, Joy Onuchukwu, who recently reunited with Richard and learnt about his situation, he eventually stopped schooling and began working as a bricklayer to make a living.

His story has now attracted attention, with a new development bringing hope.

The Mayor of Aguata Local Government Area, Dr. Chibueze Ofobuike, has reportedly offered to sponsor Richard’s O’Level education and provide support towards his basic accommodation needs.

For a young man whose promising educational journey was interrupted by the loss of his mother, the intervention could provide another opportunity to return to school and rebuild the future he once envisioned.

Governor Peter Mbah today inspected the 300-bed Enugu International Hospital on Rangers Avenue, Enugu, ahead of its official opening ceremony.

During the inspection, Prof. Uchenna Agu explained the state-of-the-art facilities installed in the hospital’s operating theatres, highlighting the advanced equipment and infrastructure put in place to support quality healthcare delivery.

The inspection underscores the Enugu State Government’s commitment to delivering a modern healthcare facility equipped to provide specialised medical services to residents and beyond.

On this day in 1989, Samuel Sochukwuma Okwaraji, a proud son of Umudioka, Orlu, Imo State, died at just 25 while representing Nigeria’s Super Eagles in a World Cup qualifier against Angola at the National Stadium, Surulere.

Okwaraji was more than a footballer. He was a qualified lawyer with a master’s degree in International Law from the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome, proving that talent and intellect could thrive together. He also played professional football across Europe, including for AS Roma, Dinamo Zagreb, VfB Stuttgart and K. Berchem Sport.

In the 77th minute of the match, he collapsed on the pitch. An autopsy later revealed hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a heart condition that can go undetected. He died before he could receive timely medical attention.

Twenty years after his death, in 2009, a statue of Samuel Okwaraji was unveiled at the National Stadium in his memory.

An Igbo son, a scholar, a football genius and a patriot who gave his final breath representing Nigeria.

25 years old. Gone too soon, Never forgotten.

Abia State Government is taking steps to establish the first National Park in the South-East, with 18 of the state’s 19 forest reserves being considered for the project.

Governor Alex Otti has directed the Ministry of Environment to work with the National Park Service and experts to identify a suitable location.

Beyond conservation, the proposed park is expected to boost tourism, create jobs, attract investment, generate revenue and strengthen environmental protection across Abia and the South-East.
