I think starting from book six we find Rowling making her villains more dynamic and complex characters. Snape obviously, but Draco Malfoy also has a complex arc where we discover his compassion and his discontent for the extreme measures Voldemort is willing to go. #hp503

It's interesting how the Harry Potter series really explores the idea that we aren't all created equal. Humans are either born with magic or not: wizards vs muggles. Is this idea of us being born unique and enherently special why we gravitate taped the books? #hp503

In book 7 it feels like snaps is the real hero of the series. He must shoulder the duplicity of good and evil without the praise. He must kill and actually die. He shows compassion and humanity when confronted with Harry's raising for Slaughter. #hp503

Why wouldn't James potter be his own secret keeper? In book five dumbledore is the secret keeper and and come and go from the house as well as in book seven when they all are? Why rely on the weakest of the group? I thought they were "the most intelligent of their year?" Hp503

Rowling continues to stereotype woman and their interactions with each other. Lavender and Hermione and her plan to make Ron jealous, Ginny and Hermione argue about quidditch and how she doesn't understand like the boys do (trying to be one of the guys). #hp503

Isn't interesting that Horace slughorn, as a teacher, promotes favoritism, exclusion, and bribery (he accepts gifts for helping others succeed in life with his network of contacts). What does that say about our educational system when it comes social class status? #hp503

@keeyan_k Yet in the book, though she shows a strong female presence, Ginny falls into that love interest waiting for the man to go out and take action role when Harry tells her he has to breakup, and leave to fight Voldemort.

@jjohbright I would say it is even more noteworthy to see a teacher giving a student something that's a banned substance, possibly dangerous, with no supervision on its use. Harry could have actually given the potion to Ron and only Hermione would have been the wiser. #hp503

I didn't realize how similar lord of the rings and hp are. Ring and horcruxes: keep the villain alive, possess and effect those who hold them, hard to destroy. Childlike characters go on an adventure to destroy them. Elderly wizards protect, guide, and die for them. #hp503

I had an interesting discussion with a friend about character arcs in hp. He argued all characters have arcs and Harry's arc is concerning love. How to love different people in his life, how to love himself, how his love effects others. I argued essence before existence. #hp503

Interesting how lightly veritaserum is used on Barry crouch and threatened to be used on Harry. Another medieval form of justice used as a RSA like the dementors and any offense being prisonable. #hp503

Hp4 introduces government corruption with characters Sr. crouch and bagman. Pg 90 they can be seen as polar opposites but both abuse their power as officials. The minister of magic proves to be stubborn and ignorant of the world around him. #hp503

I feel the most common theme in the series, all the way through is power and the use and how types of people use it, whether it be between wizards and "lessor creatures or muggle horns" to Harry having the power to decide wormtail's fate. #hp503
