@TimSweeneyEpic@mattcassinelli@grok is this true? I thought tool calls were handled on device and only the most necessary data is sent to third parties
Downloading iOS 27, I already thought that dictation was way faster and improved. Then I figured out there’s a toggle in settings that enables an even newer version of dictation, and my God, is it amazing.
It’s been free for at least a couple of years, and also I doubt that all that many people are watching the event and then know that they’re able to download a developer beta as just a regular user. Most people would assume that you actually have to have a developer account and it’s a process to get it on, not exactly the type of thing a Normie would do.
The last time that we had a waitlist for Siri, I had a similar issue with indexing and one thing that helped was downloading the beta on all of my devices. I think somehow they simultaneously indexed or shared information or something along those lines, or maybe I’m just crazy. Who knows?
@neff_dakota_@andrewjclare I’m also guessing that Apple servers are getting hit pretty hard right now, so if you have to download content from the servers to then index it locally on device, that might take up a lot of bandwidth which is currently is pretty limited.
Wow, thanks for the heads up. I’m kind of surprised that they didn’t make the toggle more clear or ask about it during set up, and as I am dictating this message, I am now understanding why it might not be the default option. It’s a little jumpy and not as smooth as the other version of dictation.
@mweinbach I could be incorrect, but I’m pretty sure you get a new version of dictation regardless it’s just that the auto rewriting features for things like removing ums and fixing punctuation is not supported on older devices at least not completely and as comprehensively
@mweinbach@wholemars I’ve run every beta for the past seven years and this is by far the most stable one I’ve ever seen, I would argue that it is more stable than the current public build
@nandoprince93 Honestly I’ll keep grok for search and more in depth stuff but my other “cowork” and voice reasons for keeping chat around will be taken care of with this
@neff_dakota_@andrewjclare It has to calculate vector embeddings for all of that data plus anything else that you have on iCloud so it can end up taking quite a while
