Vice-President of India and Chairman, Rajya Sabha, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan today inaugurated the two-day Orientation-cum-Training Programme (Prarambh) for the newly elected/nominated Members of the Rajya Sabha and delivered the Keynote Address outlining the vision and responsibilities of the Members.

Calling for meaningful parliamentary participation, the Vice-President said, “Debates, discussions or even disruptions, they must always lead to a decision,” emphasising that healthy debate strengthens democracy, while constructive cooperation advances the nation.

Stressing that every day, every hour, every minute and every second spent in the House should be used to strengthen democracy, he urged Members to uphold the highest traditions of the House through informed debates, respect for its rules and procedures, and the effective use of Question Hour and Zero Hour.

குடியரசு துணைத் தலைவர் திரு சி.பி.ராதாகிருஷ்ணன் அவர்கள் விடுதலைப் போராட்ட வீரர், தியாகி சுப்பிரமணிய சிவா அவர்களின் நினைவு நாளான இன்று, அவருக்கு குடியரசு துணைத் தலைவர் மாளிகையில் மலரஞ்சலி செலுத்தி வணங்கினார்.

அப்போது பேசிய குடியரசு துணைத் தலைவர் அவர்கள், “தமிழகத்தின் வத்தலகுண்டில் பிறந்த சுப்பிரமணிய சிவா அவர்கள், இந்தியாவின் தலைசிறந்த விடுதலைப் போராட்ட வீரர்களில் ஒருவராகத் திகழ்ந்தார். கிராமம் தோறும் பயணித்து, “வந்தே மாதரம்” என்ற தேசபக்தி முழக்கத்தின் மூலம் மக்களிடம் விடுதலை உணர்வை விதைத்து, ஏகாதிபத்திய ஆங்கிலேய ஆட்சிக்கு எதிராக அவர்களைத் தட்டியெழுப்பினார். இதன் காரணமாக, அவர் பலமுறை சிறைவாசம் அனுபவித்தார்.சிறைவாசத்தின்போது கொடிய தொழுநோயால் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட போதிலும், அதை ஒரு பொருட்டாகக் கருதாமல், தனது இறுதிக்காலம் வரை இந்திய விடுதலைக்காக அயராது போராடினார்.

அந்த மாமனிதரின் மகத்தான தியாக வாழ்வையும் , நாட்டுப்பற்றையும் போற்றி ஒட்டு மொத்த நாடும் அவரது நினைவு நாளில், தமது ஆழ்ந்த மரியாதையையும் புகழஞ்சலியையும் செலுத்துகிறது” என்று புகழாரம் சூட்டினார்.

Vice-President Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan today paid floral tributes to the great freedom fighter Thiru Subramania Siva at Uprashtrapati Bhawan on the occasion of his death anniversary.

Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-President said:

“The great freedom fighter Thiru Subramania Siva hailed from the small town of Vatlagundu in the southern part of Tamil Nadu. He travelled to every village, inspiring people to dedicate themselves to India’s freedom with the vibrant slogan ‘Vande Mataram’. Along with the legendary freedom fighter Thiru V. O. Chidambaram Pillai, he was imprisoned by the British colonial government for his unwavering commitment to the nation’s freedom.

Despite contracting leprosy during his imprisonment, he never allowed it to weaken his resolve and continued to serve the cause of India’s independence until his last breath. A deeply patriotic son of India, he worshipped Bharat Mata as his God and devoted his entire life to the service of the motherland.

On his death anniversary, the nation pays its deepest respects and heartfelt tributes to this great patriot."

A visionary statesman, eminent scholar and fearless nationalist, he awakened the spirit of self-rule through his immortal call, “𝐒𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐣 𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐲 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐭.” His leadership, writings and unwavering commitment to the nation inspired generations to strive for freedom and national awakening.

Emphasising the vital role of nurses, the Vice President said they are far more than caregivers - they instill confidence, comfort and hope in patients, with their compassion playing an indispensable role in healing.

The Vice President called for strengthening India’s healthcare ecosystem through a skilled, compassionate and service-oriented workforce, saying that quality healthcare and education are the twin pillars of a healthy and developed nation. He said the country’s journey towards Viksit Bharat by 2047 would require collective efforts to improve healthcare delivery, promote preventive healthcare and nurture dedicated healthcare professionals.
