The victor of the race… abruptly came to a stop at the base

In 1934, de Havilland DH.88 Comet "Grosvenor House" made its mark in aviation by winning the speed category in the legendary MacRobertson Air Race, from England to Australia.

Several decades later, the plane met with misfortune, crashing while landing at the Old Warden Airfield in England and overturning and sustaining considerable damage.

The pilot sustained injuries yet emerged alive from the wreck.
