Yesterday myself, @MaryTilesTexas, and @sarah_luna_1111 tried to engage with a woman who posted that she was looking for trades that her daughter could explore that didn’t require a degree and she didn’t want any ‘smart aleck responses’ or recommendations for ‘working on an oil rig’. She was…unresponsive, which indicates to me she didn’t want a real conversation.
I’ve worked in almost every type of construction in the US from heavy civil, large scale multi-unit residential, commercial, and utility. I can truly say that I’ve seen women in every trade I’ve encountered.
I’m here to tell all of you that the trades are in desperate need of skilled, dedicated people and there are more diverse opportunities out there than anyone realizes or can be summed up in one post. Don’t pigeon hole your daughters my friends, they are capable of great things!
We have a multigenerational Welfare program. Kids are raised to accept this as their fate.
We need to fund trade schools and not be subsidizing Private Universities and Colleges.
