As political leaders weigh in on whether Mormons are Christians, it should not be surprising that Christianity often answers no.
Mormonism begins by teaching that the historic Christian faith fell into apostasy, that the profession of faith confessed by Christians was corrupt, and that the Bible was altered and mistranslated. When a movement defines itself by rejecting the faith it claims to restore, Christians are naturally going to view it as something other than Christianity.
That is not hostility. It is a recognition of Mormonism’s own claims.
@RepMikeKennedy Why do you want to be like Christians when your god says "all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt" ?
Last night, I read the entirety of C.S. Lewis' The Screwtape Letters. It's a novel told in the form of letters written by a demon to another demon instructing him on ways to manipulate his "patient" to do evil.
This one quote sounded familiar.
You cannot claim that you’re aborting your Down syndrome child because you don’t want him to “suffer.” First of all, killing a child so they don’t suffer is psychopath serial killer logic. You’re on the same moral plane as Andrea Yates. Second, children with Down syndrome are famously some of the happiest people you’ll ever meet in your life. They are not in fact living in a state of perpetual torment. So what’s really happening is that you’re killing your child so that YOU won’t suffer the inconvenience of caring for him. This is about freeing yourself of your own perceived suffering. If you’re going to be a child killing sociopath, at least be honest about it.
A post is going around from a guy who aborted his Down’s Syndrome child. I won’t give it traction here.
He’s right about one thing: those with disabilities face incredible difficulties. But he’s woefully wrong about another: they too deserve life and dignity.
Abortion is evil.
Agreed. Some babies risk growing up to viciously kill their own children and seek sympathy from strangers for it. There are worse things than having a Down syndrome baby.
@McJuggerNuggets - oh no. I’m so sad to hear this. I’m sorry your family went though this. It had to be heartbreaking. And we will be praying for you.
I wish you had called me. I could have told you that all babies come with risk, but not all babies come with the pure JOY and divine blessing of a child with #DownSyndrome.
The mother of our son, Samuel, made more than one attempt to abort him. She was stopped by supernatural intervention like literal trains breaking down, trees in the road, and weather catastrophes. Then the Holy Spirit spoke to her, almost audibly, to gift her baby to someone who was called to raise him.
My family had been waiting, praying and searching to adopt the pure joy of a baby with Down Syndrome for more than 10 years.
I called through Planned Parenthoods constantly. Finally, the very profitable, taxpayer-funded FOR profit company told me they “are not in the business of adoption.” That hit me. They make their money killing these precious souls. Not facilitating their survival.
When my son was born, and we were chosen by his birth mother (who is now one of my closest friends), to be his forever family, we were given all of the horrific stories and told he had 10 congenital “defects” that would likely land him in an institution.
It simply was not true. He not only was medically easier to raise than my other four children - by far - he is to this day the smile in our lives and my own children will tell you, he is all of our favorite.
I can’t imagine life without Samuel (1 Samuel 1:27). None of us can. None of the thousands of lives he touches would have a single unkind thing to say about him… an angel on earth.
He works full time, and owns his own company (https://t.co/egeUkv9x3T). He has had books written about him (“How Sammy Sees the World”), and I have told his story in my own books.
He teaches us things every day that we could learn no place else. My other children would not have the depth or wisdom they are often cited for, without knowing Samuel.
He isn’t perfect by the world’s standards. He doesn’t talk at all (he can, he just doesn’t), but without saying a word he will teach you more about Christ than anyone you will ever know in your life. Of this, I am certain.
Everyone who knows him is better for it.
90% of babies with down syndrome are indeed aborted. This is a genocide by every standard. What makes my life more valuable than someone else’s? And where in the Bible do I even have the authority to condemn someone to death if it was God’s will to give them life?
Simultaneously it is no one’s place to condemn you and your family, who were forced to make a decision in the most unfathomable moment of your life.
Please know that I believe God’s grace is in full play here and I’m the last person coming to condemn you. I have enough sin in my own life.
I am here instead to offer that if you ever want to know Sam, you are invited to our home with my family to experience the kind of love you have lost because a multi Billion dollar industry lied to you.
I wish you peace in Jesus that only He can give. You were brave to post with such raw and newly experienced pain. But I do hope you will one day know the sweet, sweet soul that now waits for you in Heaven. If I can ever be helpful with that, I would be honored.
In His Grace,

@E_Barcohana@spencerpratt The Republicans are just getting off work. It's easier for Democrats to vote earlier in the day. They just sit around on their Obama-phones.
Long ago I was asked if I would stop my criticisms of The Passion Translation if they changed the name to reflect that it isn’t really a translation.
I said no. But I might be willing to reconsider that.
If they named it after the author we could have a deal. Allow me to suggest that they name it after Brian Simmons to correctly distinguish that it’s his product and not the result of translating. This could communicate the value of the work well and avoid the confusion Brian has so far created.
I hereby suggest “The BS Version” as a working and accurate title.
A member of Reformation Church submitted this video to his employer’s “What PRIDE means to me” campaign. Corporate wanted public clips to signal support for LGBTQ. After his submission, the whole program vanished. Videos pulled. Prizes canceled. No reply.
That is Christian witness. Christ is King!
