A 23-year-old man, Bandile Ndlozi, appeared before the Newcastle Magistrate's Court in KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday after being arrested for allegedly using fraudulent documents to purchase a Ford Raptor worth approximately R2 million.
According to reports, Ndlozi allegedly submitted a fake payslip and falsified bank statements to qualify for vehicle finance despite not being employed.
It is further alleged that he created the documents himself and even listed the telephone number of the company where his stepmother works, making it appear as though she was employed by the company used in the application.
The alleged fraud was uncovered after the bank became suspicious when the first instalment was not paid. The matter was reported to the police, leading to his arrest.
Ndlozi was granted R20,000 bail, and the case is expected to continue in court as investigations proceed.
