@by_drew It raises a deeper question, doesn’t it?
Black women have always had to fight the hardest — even the suffragettes told us no when we asked for a seat at the table.
@by_drew The film isn’t perfect, but it’s powerful. It spoke to me as a black woman and perhaps @guardian you should let a black women write something that explores the power it resonated. Many black women I know were moved by this film? Why?
@by_drew It’s ironic — the same way this film highlights how Black women are silenced and erased in systems of misogyny, this critique echoes that silence. It’s like we’re told again that our stories only matter if they meet a standard never built for us.
@by_drew ** wow. I say this as someone who’s often side-eyed his work — yes, the melodrama, the moral binaries, the shaky narratives. But this time? It hit. As a Black woman, I felt something.
Leave Meghan alone. The only trolls I see are white folks who can’t handle someone of colour making lavender towels and living an elite life. They hate black opulence. It drives them crazy! Malfunctioning racist robots.
The black girls of those days https://t.co/msWkmx3Erd they didn’t know what to do with us in the UK ❤️ but we knew. The alt black girls, the independent artists….! We tried to break down those barriers….
