The suspect in a Midland, Texas, shooting has been killed. No other details, including names of victims or the shooter, have been released. The shooting started at 8 a.m. in one part of the city before ending up near a veterinary hospital.

The suspect in the incident has died, the city said, but did not provide additional details.

Nine victims are being treated at Midland Memorial Hospital, with four still in surgery and five currently stable, the hospital told CBS affiliate KOSA.

"My heart breaks for the victims and their families," Mayor Lori Blong said. "We are praying for every person touched by today's events and for the law enforcement officers who risked [their] own safety to protect our community."

Blong said she was not aware of any police officers being injured.

The friend said he had given her directions to the Belt Parkway, which would have taken her straight home.

She is described as an Black/African American woman, 5'1", 117 lbs, with black hair & brown eyes, and a scar on her left eyebrow. She was attending classes at Queensborough College & was working at Delta Airlines at JFK airport.

She was last seen wearing a green ski jacket, gray sweatpants, and white shoes. Her car has never been recovered. She was driving a 1990 blue Honda Civic.
