Michael Olise, who started off his career at Reading in the Championship, has just put in back-to-back masterclasses in the World Cup for France 😮‍💨

It wasn’t always easy for Olise, who faced releases from both Arsenal and Chelsea’s youth academies after the age of 14, where Reading picked him up to their academy. It was only up from there 📈

EFL young player of the season in 2021 earned himself a move to Premier League Crystal Palace. Despite having an injury-hit final year at Palace, he averaged nearly a goal contribution a game which attracted interest from all of Europe. But Bayern got their man…

Since then he has consistently been one of the best right wingers on the planet. Scarily good dribbling, and cutting in on a wand of a left foot for goals and assists. A man of the match performance in his World Cup debut against Senegal, and another 2 assists today against Iraq 💫

All at Reading Football Club are devastated to hear the news of the passing of former Chief Scout, Steve Shorey.

Joining the club in 2005 as Academy Chief Scout, Steve was instrumental in the careers of the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson, Alex Pearce, Jem Karacan and Michael Hector.

Promoted to First-Team Chief Scout in 2010 under Brian McDermott, Steve remained an integral part of the Royals Family until 2020.

Our thoughts are with Nicky, the entire Shorey family and all of Steve's friends.
