Build your own roads, your own airport, treat yourself when you are sick, grow your own food, pay your own salary. And while you're at it, stop taxing us since it doesn't "improve my socioeconomic position". And when we said that, you people said we're selfish.
In fact, we were told that affordable housing was for improving the "socioeconomic position" of others. Ban affordable housing levy, while at it, since now we are all selfish.
Learning about Rosemary farming in Rongai. Google says Rosemary oil treats Androgenetic Alopecia (male pattern baldness) by preventing a byproduct of testosterone from attacking your hair follicles...
I'm scratching my head...Globally, demand for Rosemary is at an all time high!
You already repeat a sentence about yourself hundreds of times a week.
Nobody sat down and chose it. It arrived from a parent, a teacher, someone you dated at nineteen, and it has been running since without ever being read aloud or checked.
Tobi Lutke's story is interesting because it is the same mechanism pointed on purpose. He was frightened of public speaking, wrote one sentence a day for a week about liking it, and the fear went.
The research behind why that works is called self-persuasion. Arguments you generate yourself move your attitudes far more than the identical argument handed to you by somebody else. When you write a claim in your own hand, you become the person making it, and people defend their own positions.
Which means the sentence you never chose has been getting the same treatment for twenty years, argued to yourself thousands of times without you noticing.
Most attempts to overwrite it fail at one point. Psychologists tested repeated positive statements and found the results split cleanly. People who could accept the line felt better afterward. People who could not felt measurably worse, because a sentence you privately reject starts a fight you lose against your own evidence.
So the whole thing turns on the wording. Big enough to move you, true enough that you do not laugh at it.

The more someone uses the word busy to describe themselves, the fewer meaningful things they get done.
The less someone uses the word busy to describe themselves, the more they actually get done and accomplish.
On day one, a newborn's stomach holds about a teaspoon.
So a mother does not make milk yet. She makes a few teaspoons of thick yellow fluid over the whole first day, and every woman who has fed a baby remembers the panic of thinking that cannot possibly be enough.
It is exactly enough. His stomach on day one is the size of a marble, and by day three it has grown to roughly a cherry, so the volume shows up precisely when the room for it does.
What sits in those teaspoons is the part nobody explains. Ordinary breast milk carries around half a gram of antibodies in a litre. This carries between 50 and 100 grams. She is handing over her immune system, concentrated a hundredfold, in a dose that fits inside a marble.
Most of it is one antibody doing one job. It coats the inside of his gut and his airways, laying a film across every surface a germ would need to cross. He arrives with almost no defences, so for those first days he is running on hers.
It does a second job on the way through. The fluid works as a mild laxative, pushing out the dark first stool, which carries away the substance that turns newborns yellow. Feeding early lowers the chance of jaundice.
By day five it has gone, replaced by white milk in far larger amounts, and the window closes. She had a few days of a few days to hand over everything her body had learned about every infection she ever survived. She spent it four teaspoons at a time, convinced she was failing.

Something intriguing I found this week:
A school in Nyamira County, Kenya has recorded zero teenage pregnancies in 5 years among nearly 1,000 learners down from 1-2 cases every year before. The turning point came in June 2024, when Grade 7 students were asked to write anonymous notes about issues affecting their wellbeing.

When I went to see my doctor Re perimenopause he said, I like that you women are coming waaaaaaay before symptoms.. you're the 4th one this week..

My grandparents from my mom's side both turned 101 yesterday. They happen to share the same birthday. They have been married for 77 years and so yesterday I got the opportunity to ask them how they managed to stay happily married for that long. Grandma said, "Alfred is always...
"There are seven paths presented to working Kenyans:
1. get a government job
2. become a contractor for the government
3. seek employment in a foreign multi-national corporation operating here
4. try your luck in entrepreneurship
5. go abroad, become a drug dealer
6. attempt to become white, or to copy someone else’s dream.
7. be unemployed, starve and die."
Very well written essay by @EricMahasi
Whoever told me to simmer rosemary to get rid of random smells around the house… you deserve an award 😭
I threw about two spoonfuls into a pot, let it simmer, stepped out for literally 5 minutes, and came back to the whole house smelling sooo good.
My diffuser has officially been replaced the rosemary scent somehow reached every corner 🌿
These things creeped out the romans so much that they destroyed them wherever possible.
This was to such an extent that despite knowing about them for centuries we only discovered the first complete one in 2004.
