As part of our fleet modernization strategy, we're upgrading 33 Evolution Series locomotives from DC to AC. The conversion will equip these locomotives with AC traction motors, upgraded control systems, and advanced digital technologies– transforming them into ES44ACMs.

The upgraded locomotives will:

⚙️ Deliver enhanced hauling performance in demanding operating conditions

📈 Increase productivity while reducing lifecycle maintenance requirements

🔍 Enhance diagnostics and maintenance planning to improve fleet reliability

Built for the future, right here in America. These locomotive upgrades will be completed at Wabtec's U.S.-based facilities. 🇺🇸

The first upgraded locomotives, pictured here, will be delivered to NS from Wabtec’s Erie, PA facility beginning this month and continuing into 2027.

Since 2015, NS has completed more than 1,000 DC-to-AC locomotive conversions, as we continue to build one of North America's most modernized fleets.
