There are 3 regimes of legal marriages in Nigeria:

1. Statutory marriage: regulated by Matrimonial Causes Act and Marriage Act.

2. Customary/Traditional marriage: regulated by native laws and customs of different communities

3. Islamic marriage: regulated by Shariah/Islamic Law.

a. If you do any of the above, your marriage is LEGAL.

b. If you do 1, 2 and 3 together or 1 and 2 or 1 and 3, with the same person, your marriage is called DOUBLE-DECKER MARRIAGE and it is also LEGAL but usually most complicated marriages to deal with.

c. If you do 1 with one person and you do 2 with another person, your second marriage is VOID.

d. If you do 1 with one person and another 1 with a different person, without a divorce or a dissolution of the first marriage, that second marriage is illegal and constitutes BIGAMY.

e. If you marry someone under 1 and marry another person under 3, your second marriage is not VOID. It is LEGAL.

Addendum:

1. If you dissolve your marriage under option 1, properties are not automatically distributed equally. They are only distributed based on 3 things:

- jointly acquired: If jointly acquired, the property is shared in the same proportion of actual contributions to its acquisition. Only financial contributions suffices.

- solely acquired: not shared.

- matrimonial properties: acquired during the marriage and towards sustenance of the marriage. They are shared based on the proportions contributions towards acquisition and it’s not automatic 50/50. Evidence of contributions must be proved, either through financial and non-financial contributions and the court considers sharing formula based on what is fair and just.

2. If you marry only under 2 and 3, upon divorce, nobody is entitled to any share of any property. You only take what you own in your name.

BREAKING: President Tinubu Approves Expansion of Nigerian Army to 12 Divisions, Recruiting 28,000 Additional Personnel

Here is the full list of the 12 Divisions after President Tinubu’s approval:

1. 1 Division – Kaduna (Kaduna, Kano, Katsina and Jigawa States)

2. 2 Division – Ibadan (Oyo, Osun, Ekiti and Ondo States)

3. 3 Division – Jos (Plateau, Bauchi and Gombe States)

4. 5 Division – Makurdi (Benue, Nasarawa and Kogi States)

5. 6 Division – Port Harcourt (Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River States)

6. 7 Division – Maiduguri (Borno and Yobe States)

7. 8 Division – Sokoto (Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States)

8. 9 Division – Ilorin (Kwara and Niger States)

9. 10 Division – Jalingo (Taraba and Adamawa States)

The implementation of the new force structure will be executed in two phases. The initial phase, which includes the establishment of the 5, 9, and 10 Divisions, along with the reorganization of existing formations, is slated for completion by September 2026. The subsequent phase, which involves the establishment of the 83 Division and additional reorganization, is anticipated to be finalized by December 2026.

For those who might want to learn:

1. When a defendant pleads guilty to a charge and the offense is not a capital punishment, the court will record the plea of guilt for the defendant and sentence the defendant to the appropriate sentence as may be prescribed by law.

2. When a defendant pleads guilty to a charge and the offence is a capital punishment, the court MUST record the PLEA OF NOT GUILTY and proceed to trial. If the court records the plea of guilty for a defendant in a capital offence and proceeds to sentence the defendant without a full trial, the sentence and conviction will be set aside on appeal.

3. When a defendant is charge for different offences, which include both capital and non capital offences, and the defendant pleads guilty to all the charges, the court must apply rule 1 above the the non-capital offences and rule 2 above to the capital offences. Which means that, for the non-capital offences, the court will record the plea of guilty, convict and sentence the defendant. For the capital offences, the court will record not guilty, even if the defendant has pleaded guilty, and proceed to full trial.

3. Where all the offences a defendant is charged are non-capital offences and the defendant pleads guilty to some counts and not guilty to other counts, the court will records plea of guilty to the count in respect of which a defendant has pleaded guilty, convict and sentence accordingly. For the counts which the defendant has pleaded not guilty, the court will proceed to trial for the determination of guilt as the defendant is presumed innocent of those counts he has pleaded not guilty to.

NB: Capital offences are offences that attract death penalty and they include: murder, armed robbery, kidnapping and terrorism resulting to death.

When President Trump called us a disgraced country in November last year, a lot of people took it as a fact. They parroted it, amplified it, and spoke in such a distasteful manner about their country. It was shocking at the time, but it’s allowed.

Now that Trump has commended President Tinubu for his decisive leadership, especially regarding cooperation in our counter-terrorism efforts, you all have to maintain the same energy or wear your breastplate of hypocrisy.

Trump’s words cannot be gospel to you when he attacks Nigeria, and you’d suddenly look away or sound dismissive when he commends us.

As I have always said, you can hate your politicians, but draw a line. Don’t hate your country. Politicians will come and go, but your country will remain.

In Letter to Tinubu, Trump Lauds Nigerian President’s Decisive Leadership Against Terrorists – Presidency

U.S. President Donald Trump has commended Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his strong leadership in combating terrorism, particularly violence affecting Christian communities, according to a statement from the Nigerian Presidency.
In a formal letter dated July 6, 2026, President Trump praised Tinubu’s resolve and pledged continued U.S. support in the fight against terrorists.

“It is a true honour to stand with you in the fight against these terrorists and to make the Federal Republic of Nigeria stronger and more prosperous,” Trump wrote.

The details were disclosed today by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the Nigerian President on Information and Strategy.

I gave a security guy money to share with his colleagues. The guy in front begged me that next time, I should give everyone their money personally. One time I went to the gym and gave the security money to share with his colleagues and he put it in his pocket. I gave a nurse money at the hospital to share with her colleagues and she put in her pocket. Somebody did business with 2 friends and was meant to share commission with them, but he pocketed it. They kpaid him sha.

The rescue of 44 captives in Oyo State was not a miracle. It was the result of community cooperation. Residents refused to shield the abductors, provided intelligence, and trusted the military. That made the operation possible.

Northerners are now demanding the same success in their regions and they deserve it. But here is the hard truth:

In many parts of the North, military operations have been stalled not by lack of capacity, but by individuals protecting the k!dn@pp£rs for personal gain. Informants leak intelligence. Local leaders shield cr!m!nals. Communities turn a blind eye.

You cannot demand a successful rescue when you are feeding the k!dn@pp£rs' networks.

The Oyo rescue happened because the community refused to cooperate with the abductors. The military had actionable intelligence, local support, and a clear target. That is the formula.

If Northern communities want the same outcome, they must give the same cooperation.

KIDNAPPED STUDENTS AND TEACHERS IN OYO STATE RESCUED FOLLOWING, SURGICAL INTENSE AND WELL COORDINATED OPERATIONS IN OLD OYO NATIONAL PARK AND OTHER PARTS OF THE COUNTRY

1. Following an intelligence-led carefully planned and executed operations, on 10 July 2026, troops of the Nigerian Army, led by the General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Ibadan, *Major General CR Nnebeife*, in collaboration with special units from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) specifically the National Counter Terrorism Center (NCTC),the Defence Headquarters with Special Forces elements from the Nigerian Army, Navy the Air Force and the Nigeria Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and other security agencies as well as local vigilantes/hunters/Amotekuns, in a well coordinated operation rescued a total of 44 pupils and teachers kidnapped by terrorists from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on 15 May 2026.

2. The operations, which lasted for more than a month, focused on identifying the terrorists kingpins that masterminded the kidnapping, bursting and dismantling their networks and logistics links, including their informants and hideouts located within the Old Oyo National Park Forest, Oyo State.

3. As part of the operations, multiple arrests were made within Oyo State and in other locations across some States in the Country. These arrests completely disorganized the group, exerted overwhelming pressure on them and ultimately led the terrorist group to *unconditionally release* the pupils and teachers. Further operations are to be conducted.

4. It suffices to note that the operations were carefully planned and executed to avoid collateral damages and to equally ensure that the innocent children and teachers were safely rescued. However, there were some casualties on the part of the security forces.

5. The pupils and teachers are currently receiving medical attention in an undisclosed hospital and will be handed over to the Oyo State Government in due course so as to be reunited with their families.

6. The GOC 2 Division wish to on behalf of all the participating agencies most sincerely and respectfully thank and appreciate His Excellency, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR for the Strategic Guidance, Support and for all the provisions that made the operations a huge success.

7. The GOC also wishes to once again thank the Governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde and indeed the good people of the State for their continous support to security agencies especially during the trying period.

8. The GOC also appreciates the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the Hon Minster of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff and other Service Chiefs, Inspector General of Police and the Directors General DSS and NIA as well as Heads of other Security Agencies for their support and for the opportunity to relate directly with all the security agencies to ensure a seamless coordination and execution of the operations.

9. We sincerely thank the various media houses and indeed the entire Nigeria populace for their support, understanding and for having faith in the security architecture of the Nation. We urge all to remain vigilant and continue to support all security agencies by providing timely and credible information that would assist in the ongoing efforts to safeguard lives and properties across Nigeria.
