There appears to be a growing campaign by some individuals to force the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Mallam Ibrahim Gusau, out of office. I believe that while criticism and accountability are necessary, the apparent intensity of the campaign against the NFF leadership raises questions about its motives.
It is important to acknowledge that Nigerian football has faced deep-rooted challenges for years, many of which cannot be resolved overnight. From administration and funding to grassroots development, player welfare, coaching, infrastructure, and the overall organization of the game, the current leadership has faced a complicated system that requires sustained reforms.
So, the question we should now ask is are we trying to fix Nigerian football or are we simply trying to remove individuals from positions of responsibility?
If there are areas where the NFF has failed, those responsible should be held accountable. But removing an elected football administrator should not become an objective in itself, particularly when there are ongoing efforts to reform the system.
Nigerian football needs stability, professionalism and continuity. Constant attempts to remove football administrators before they have the opportunity to implement meaningful reforms can further weaken the institution and distract from the real issues affecting the game.
The NFF belongs to Nigerian football, not to any individual or interest group. What should ultimately matter is the development of the sport, the welfare of our players, the growth of grassroots football and the return of Nigerian football to where it belongs.
We may disagree with Mallam Ibrahim Gusau, but we should not be unfair to him. If he is genuinely trying to fix the system, he deserves the opportunity to do so and where he falls short, he should be constructively challenged and held accountable.

This is why I laugh at the banterous slandering of the GOATed Jay Jay Okocha. If it is not just banter and you genuinely believed he killed team’s progressive play, then your understanding of the game has to be checked.
Jay Jay was not just a magical dribbler; but just like Messi, he was a talent, blessed with tremendous vision and a dexterious passer of the ball.
So, like it was in this game vs Italy in 1994 (that shaped the unfounded claims that Jay Jay doesn’t play with the team), the times he didn’t pass, he was either unsure of the pass going through or of the teammate’s run good enough. It happens, a lot, with players that never like to lose the ball.
And once again in this clip against Italy, it is obvious to see how positive Jay Jay’s play was for the team than negative. I remember the notion while watching this game LIVE among those seniors were that of negativity; I wonder how they will feel if they watch it with open minds now. (I remember watching the full game in Qatar four years ago 😁)
