I don’t think Spygate is going to disappear until Saints fans crowdfund the building of a 15 foot wall around Middlesbrough’s training complex. I’ll start it off by donating 2p.
It's a fridge with a bottle of champagne in someone's kitchen until the camera zooms out.
I often see similar things in Kharkiv: a ceiling lamp hanging by a wire in a dark, shattered room; a kitchen cabinet still hanging on the wall when the rest of the room is gone; an intercom that used to open a door that no longer exists...
It is eerie. It irks me. Maybe because I feel like that bottle of champagne: still there when everything else is gone, out of place and untimely, and maybe better off gone with the rest of it all.
(Video is of an apartment building in Kyiv, that collapsed after russian attack.)
VAR
I enthusiastically welcomed it. Was sold on the higher percentage of right decisions so we could all go home knowing football justice had been done and we could concentrate on which player was crap instead.
But I was wrong. Woefully and completely wrong.
Waiting 5 minutes for a decision to be made alone means the system isn't fit for purpose. Why? Because I sat with TV producers who said everything would be wrapped up in 10-30 seconds. It has literally taken the spontaneous joy from the most important part of the game. A goal.
Then, one thing completely blindsided me and many others.
Subjectivity.
I thought there would be science and a nailed on guarantee of a successfully and universally accepted decision. How wrong we were. Instead, arbitrary lines are drawn that simply can't with any certainty say whether a player is offside or not. So a human in a portacabin, 200 miles away only does what the referee can do, make a best guess.
Likewise handballs, dives, any penalty decision to be honest. A subjective decision decided out of stadium allowing an increasingly small and poor refereeing pool a get out of jail free card. Instead of them making a shit decision and owning it, they just pass it on 200 miles away so 3 men in a portacabin can make a shit decision instead. Lunacy.
For the love of the game, let's go back to investing in getting more referees, respecting them so that they join the trade and don't feel constantly abused. In short, treat them like rugby referees. Ultimate respect.
Then, fuck VAR off, it's ruined the game, made it petty and chaotic, and taken that one ingredient that you simply can't replace, instantaneous joy.
As a player and fan I accepted a referee making a bad decision in a game in the same way I accepted fucking up a shot or pass. We're all human.
Let's get back to that, humans doing their best, everyone walks away from the ground accepting that and less unrealistic pressure put on officials to be perfect when perfection doesn't exist in any walk of life.
VAR stinks. A system designed to help is a massive hindrance and it's about time pundits, fans, players, referees, clubs put pressure on authorities to get rid of it. We only need goal line tech, the rest can and should be refer refereed by humans making their best judgement. A best judgement that was over 98% right( audited fact pre VAR).
Enough is enough, fuck it off.
Sweden got rid of VAR.
They heard what everyone connected with the sport had to say about it and ruled, "OK. It's gone."
That will NEVER happen here because the bureaucratic ruling football hierarchy pretend they can't hear what paying public think.
We don't matter.
Bravo Sweden
An FA Cup Final that will live in the memory for years.
Well, not years - possibly months.
Maybe weeks.
Days.
Actually, what were we talking about?

Twenty-eight years ago, the world lost Frank Sinatra, and I lost my dad. I don’t think I’ll ever fully get over the loss of him, or the fact that my siblings and I were disregarded and not given a chance to say goodbye.
My father was one of the most extraordinary men I ever had the privilege to know. What an incredible life he lived, and what a remarkable legacy he left behind. On this sad anniversary, I find myself thinking about all he accomplished, the joy he brought to so many people, and the love he gave to those closest to him. The world could certainly use his warmth, kindness, grace, and wonderful sense of humor today. He had a way of making people feel special, whether it was one person sitting beside him or on stage in front of thousands.
What I regret most is that his great-grandchildren never got the chance to know him. Oh! How they would have loved each other.
Twenty-eight years later, the world still sings along with him. Young people continue discovering him for the first time, while those who loved him from the beginning still treasure the man and his music. His music is special because it came from somewhere real, and because he meant every word he sang. He left behind a body of work that continues to bring people comfort, joy, romance, and strength.
Dad was always concerned that his work would be forgotten, so he would be absolutely thrilled to know that his legacy lives on across generations, not only through his music, but in the hearts and on the playlists of millions of people around the world.
Frank Sinatra is eternal.
And I still miss my Daddy. I love you, Poppa.
Southampton have played 8 games in 24 days
They’ve beaten Arsenal, cemented a play off spot and the only defeat in that time was vs one of the best teams in the world in the last few minutes
Those tired legs and minds have done a sterling job

Look at this bullshit.
This is what football supporters have been cowed into accepting in their game by television.
Fuck off television. And every single vampire creep who is an apologist for this nonsense
“Future Governor of Canada, Mark Carney.”
Let me repeat this slowly so it penetrates that dementia fog: Canada will NEVER be your 51st state.
On behalf of Canada, FUCK ALL THE WAY OFF. And when you’re done fucking off, take one more step & fuck off again, you geriatric pedophile
Now that Prince Andrew is in custody, we must honor the courage of the victims. Virginia Giuffre spoke openly about her abuse. It is revealing how poorly our DOJ is performing when, across the pond, the Royals are being held accountable.
The victims deserve justice. #DemsUnited
Charlie Chaplin composed the beautiful instrumental music for the end of "Modern Times" that later became the hit song "Smile" made famous by Nat King Cole...Simply beautiful ............
russians say:
“We’re fighting NATO.”
Reality?
You’re fighting farmers with homemade drones.
Grandmas spotting targets with binoculars.
And a nation that still cracks jokes during blackouts.
Spoiler:
You’re not losing to NATO.
You’re losing to Ukrainians.
@TheStingisBack Great thread - thanks.
One of my favorite bits of trivia: Brooks advertised for a "Frankie Laine" type (High Noon, Cool Water, Rawhide) to sing the theme song. Laine answered and gave a serious performance.
It's a great song.
