NIGERIA CANNOT BE RENEWED WITHOUT ITS WORKERS

Yesterday, the Movement for Democratic Renewal (MDR) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), co-promoters of this historic National movement, gathered with labour coordinators across the FCT at the NLC Labour House, Abuja, to confront one fundamental question, How do we rescue Nigeria's democracy and restore hope to millions of our people?

Although, I was represented by my Chief of Staff, Mr. Kamaldeen Adebayo Sanni, my message was clear and unequivocal, Workers are not just voters. They are nation builders. They must become equal partners in governance, policy making and national development.

I deeply appreciate the Chairman of the NLC FCT Council, Comrade Stephen Nnabayi, whose passionate remarks captured the painful realities confronting our nation and the urgent responsibility placed on organised labour and democratic forces to lead the struggle for National renewal.

I also commend Comrade Nanman Philemon Kash for presenting the vision of the Movement for Democratic Renewal. Her presentation reaffirmed why this movement was founded, to unite Nigerians around democratic accountability, responsible leadership, social justice, economic opportunity, national unity and inclusive governance.

My appreciation equally goes to my Legal Adviser, Mr. Chukwunyere Akwiti, for reminding participants that democracy survives only when the rule of law prevails and our institutions remain stronger than individual interests.

I also salute our Director-General of Hashim Grassroots Mobilisation Movement, Pastor Ayinla Samuel, whose powerful call for Grassroots Mobilisation Movement, who reminded the gathering that lasting democratic change will not begin in Abuja alone. It must begin in every workplace, every community and every polling unit across Nigeria.

The interactive session with labour leaders was one of the most inspiring moments of the meeting.

We had honest conversations about the rising cost of living, unemployment, insecurity, poor governance, electoral reforms, the shrinking influence of workers in public decision making and the growing frustration of millions of Nigerians.

Yet, beyond the challenges, there was hope.

There was a shared conviction that Nigeria can still be rebuilt through ethical leadership, accountable governance, strong democratic institutions and active citizen participation.

I also reaffirmed my unwavering commitment to the rule of law. While the legal process concerning my emergence as the Accord Party's presidential candidate continues, I remain confident that justice will prevail. I have consistently urged all our supporters to remain peaceful, law abiding and steadfast in their faith in democratic institutions.

The Movement for Democratic Renewal was never conceived as another political platform.

It is a National awakening, a coalition of workers, professionals, youth, women, civil society organisations and patriotic Nigerians determined to reclaim our democracy and restore the promise of our Republic.

The journey ahead will not be easy, but history teaches us that every great national transformation begins with courageous citizens who refuse to surrender to despair.

I thank every labour leader, affiliate union and participant who contributed to the engagement!

I was pleased to receive my brother and Presidential Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo last night, for a frank and productive discussion on the state of our Nation, the challenges confronting our democracy and the responsibility of patriotic leaders to rise above partisan interests in pursuit of the common good.

These consultations have also extended to other respected leaders, including the Presidential Candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, and will continue with other pro-democracy stakeholders in the days ahead.

Nigeria stands at a defining moment. Our democracy must be protected. Our institutions must be strengthened. Our elections must command the confidence of the people. Above all, the Nigerian people deserve leadership that places the National interest above personal ambition or partisan calculations.

Our conversations are not about political convenience or electoral arithmetic. They are about preserving democracy, defending constitutional governance, expanding political freedom and building a Nigeria where every citizen has a genuine stake in the future.

As Co-Chairman of the Movement for Democratic Renewal (MDR) and Presidential Candidate of the Accord Party, I remain convinced that the challenges confronting our Nation cannot be solved in isolation. They require dialogue, collaboration and a shared commitment to democratic values.

History has repeatedly shown that whenever democracy is threatened, patriots must find common ground to defend it. That spirit must guide us once again.

I welcome every sincere effort aimed at restoring public confidence in our democratic institutions, ensuring free and credible elections, and building a Nation founded on justice, inclusion, security and opportunity.

The future of Nigeria is bigger than any political party or any individual. It belongs to all of us, and together we must protect it.
