This airstrip has been there for decades. It's mostly been used to train aviation students and it wasn't built the other day as some people claim. Only minor renovations were done last year before the Jamhuri Day celebrations at the Kitui Stadium.
The high school I went to is just next to the airstrip and I remember how we'd spend our free time watching those small aircraft land and take off.
The most memorable moment I have of the airstrip was when Uhuru & Kibaki landed there to attend Charity Ngilu's husband's funeral.
