Shaykh al Islām Ibn Taymiyyah began issuing fatāwa (legal verdicts) only at the tender age of 17. “How can this be possible?” one may say.
Allāma Ibn Nujaym al-Hanafī said:
“If a young person has memorized the narrations, is well-versed in dirāyah (understanding), fulfills his acts of worship properly, and keeps away from (evil) desires and doubtful matters, then it is permissible for him to give legal verdicts. A scholar, no matter how young he is, is great; and an ignorant person, no matter how old he is, is small.”

Al-Hafidh Ibn Hajr رحمه الله said:
“Some of the Salaf were asked about the reason why it was that good deeds were burdensome to do and it was easy to carry out evil actions.
They said: 'This is because the bitterness of good deeds is present and its sweetness is absent so it is burdensome, so do not let its burden cause you to leave doing good deeds.
As for evil deeds then its sweetness is present and its burden is absent and that is why it is easy to do them. So do not let its ease cause you to commit them.”
