IRAN STRIKES CALLED OFF
President Trump says he has cancelled planned U.S. strikes and bombings against Iran scheduled for this evening. He stated that all parties have approved the discussions and final terms in principle and in detail. A naval blockade will remain in place until the agreement is finalized. The time and location for the signing ceremony will be announced shortly.
🌾The 2026 U.S. wheat harvest is now expected to be the smallest since 1970.
USDA's production estimate slid further in Thursday's update, including a 0.8 bpa cut in winter wheat yield. The new yield of 46.8 bpa would be an 11-year low.
El Niño is officially here! @NOAA National Weather Service announced today that El Niño has developed in the tropical Pacific, issuing an El Niño Advisory. They say it's expected to strengthen through fall and winter, but there's also a 63% chance the event reaches "very strong" status.
The timing is notable: 75% of the U.S. is currently experiencing dryness or drought conditions, a slight improvement from last week. But a year ago, that figure was just 48%.
A stronger El Niño could bring much-needed moisture to some drought-stricken areas. But the two areas meteorologists are still concerned about? The Pacific Northwest and parts of the South.
#spot#soybeans#sn6- Looks like we are about to dance with the 18-month bull-#trendline. Bullish ? Bearish-I'd watch that level.. What's your plan, Stan?
$11.00 to $10.90 could get interesting...
In case you were like, "what the hell happened to soybeans"
12% tariff on China and others possible after a forced labor probe....

#CORN IN THE BIN. Mind the "gap" on the weekly continuation chart. $4.05 1/4 on the bear radar? #corn#oatt#oldcrop. Now would be a really good time for some #chinese buying... Just sayin' Anyone got Xi's cell phone?
Stairs up. Elevator down. But this one has no brakes.
Sep CBOT #wheat is approaching its April low.
Shortly after the China commitments story, we flipped bearish - but we did not expect the sell-off to be this brutal. Nearly 15% down in two weeks.
The next question: when does this become a buying opportunity?

🌾U.S. winter wheat conditions fell to 26% good/excellent as of Sunday, the date's worst rating in records back to 1986.
Corn planting remains ahead of average despite landing at the low end of estimates this week. Soybean planting is no longer the date's fastest (83% in 2012).
According to #OntAg - about 43% of Ontario's soybeans have been planted and 71% of corn planted as of Sunday evening - May 17th, 2026.
Thank you for your participation, will poll again.

Where does the opportunity for $17B of non-soy ag exports to #China lie?
Below is a look at the breakdown by category over the span of 2021-23, during which non-soy ag exports averaged a similar ~$17.5B.
It's also worth pointing out how anomalous this stretch was; the average non-soy ag export value from 2010-2020 was only $8.7B, and 2025 fell to $5.3B (check out my graphic from yesterday).
Bottom line: it's possible, but the path likely requires a broad-based increase across multiple categories rather than one single commodity carrying the load.

China has agreed to buy at least $17 billlion of US ag products annually through 2028.
This does not include the 25 MMT of soybeans they agreed to buy.
Which would add another $10-11 billion. For a total of $27-28 billion.
Past US Ag Exports to China:
2025: $8.3 billion
2024: $27 billion
2023: $34 billion
2022: $41 billion
2021: $39 billion
No specific products were mentioned.
🇺🇸The U.S. in 2026 is set to harvest the smallest wheat crop in 54 years.
Weather has challenged winter wheat this year and condition ratings have plunged. Pairing low yield with low planted area, USDA projects the smallest U.S. winter wheat harvest since 1965.

TRUMP: IRAN WAR MAY END SOON
President Donald Trump said the Iran conflict has “a very good chance” of ending as the U.S. nears a deal that could require Iran to send enriched uranium to the U.S. and halt parts of its nuclear program. He cautioned progress isn’t certain, warned military action would resume if talks fail, and said an agreement could come before his trip to China next week.
US winter #wheat is holding on, but only just.
Just 30% is rated good/excellent. That is better than another drop after the freeze. But it still leaves the crop only a few points above record-low territory.
That keeps weather risk very much alive.

U.S. Drought Monitor April 23, 2026
For the 50 states and Puerto Rico, the U.S. Drought Monitor shows 52.46% in moderate drought or worse, compared to 51% last week.
#DroughtMonitor#Drought#Drought2026
🇺🇸U.S. winter wheat conditions fell below all trade estimates to 30% good/excellent. That's approaching 2022 & 2023, among the lowest scoring years in recent memory.
Despite some wet weather, U.S. corn & bean planting pace met expectations and remain ahead of average levels.
