When we talk about the sacrifices of our fallen service members, it's worth remembering how this tradition actually started.
In 1865, a group of formerly enslaved Black Americans in Charleston organized the country's very first "Decoration Day." They carefully exhumed Union soldiers from a mass grave at a Confederate prison camp and gave them proper burials—honoring the men who gave their lives in the fight for emancipation.
Today, we carry that legacy forward. We remember the immense cost of our freedom, and we honor every hero who fought to defend it.
Good news, DC! Outdoor pool season has officially begun.
17 outdoor pools and 35 spray parks are open today through Monday 10AM-6PM.
While rain is in the forecast, pools will open as long as conditions remain safe for lifeguards to monitor and as long as there is no lightning.
Mark your Calendar! Mail Ballot Drop Boxes for the June 16 Primary and Special Elections will open on Friday, May 22 by 11 am. Voters can find locations at https://t.co/b4CLvSYuWD. Learn more at https://t.co/AMyzpmUuSq #vote4dc
Tim White embodied public service at its very best.
From leading the Office of East of the River Development to advancing affordable housing efforts across the District, Tim's work helped shape our city for the better. He was humble, kind, and passionate about delivering for our residents and the city he loved.
Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family, friends, and loved ones at this time.
