Can we have an audit of the PM CARES Fund?
The real question is — why shouldn’t we?
A fund chaired by the Prime Minister, carrying the national emblem, receiving thousands of crores in public donations and CSR contributions, and repeatedly projected as the nation’s emergency response vehicle, remains outside CAG audit, outside full RTI scrutiny, and outside parliamentary questions.
Private auditors and selective receipts-and-payments statements are not a substitute for the independent, rigorous oversight that every other public instrument claiming to act in the name of citizens is subjected to.
If the fund has been managed with complete integrity, an independent audit should be welcomed.
If transparency is treated as a threat, that itself answers the question and more so after the Ayodhya Ram Mandir Theft where suspicion points towards PMO.
Opacity is not a virtue. Accountability is.

It is painful to see young students from different parts of the country assembled for days on the streets of New Delhi. Their anxieties and concerns regarding the examination system are genuine and must be handled with empathy and a desire to find a lasting solution. I fervently hope that this is not treated merely as a law-and-order issue to be tackled through the use of force. It is very painful to see that even young girls were brutally mishandled.
Such use of force shall alienate large sections of Indian society from the national goal of Viksit Bharat.

यह देखना अत्यन्त पीड़ादायक है कि देश के विभि���्न भागों से आए युवा छात्र कई दिनों से नई दिल्ली की सड़कों पर एकत्रित हैं। उनकी चिंताएँ और सरोकार वास्तविक हैं। इन्हें सहानु��ूति तथा दूरगामी समाधान की दृष्टि से हल किया जाना चाहिए। मुझे पूरी आशा है कि इसे केवल कानूनी और व्यवस्था की समस्या के रूप में नहीं देखा जाएगा जिससे बलपूर्वक निपटा जाये। मुझे य़ह देखकर अत्यन्त पीड़ा हुई है कि महिलाओं और युवतियों पर निर्मम बल प्रयोग किया गया।
ऐसे बल के उपयोग से भारतीय समाज का बड़ा हिस्सा विकसित भारत के लक्ष्य से बहुत दूर चला जाएगा।

Regarding the shameful ban on the film "Satluj"/"Punjab 95" in India

I thankfully got a chance to watch the extremely powerful film "Satluj" on Zee5 over the weekend before the Modi Govt abruptly pulled it down.

The film tells the story of human rights crusader Jaswant Singh Khalra who exposed the butchering of innocents that happened in Punjab in the mid-90s. It is a reckoning of a horrible chapter of our history which we have ignored for decades.

The film exposes a diabolical era where our institutions failed miserably. The fact that the film has been banned just goes on to show how much our "democracy" has further eroded under the Modi Govt.

I have written to Sh Ashwini Vaishnaw, Hon'ble Minister for Information Broadcasting and IT expressing my strongest protest against the banning of this important film.

I understand this is a futile exercise but history will not forgive us if we choose to remain silent.

We owe it to the memory of Jaswant Singh Khalra and the thousands of victims of Punjab whose story is being shamefully buried. It is time that our nation starts having the uncomfortable conversations that are required to acknowledge and confront the dark episodes of our past.

Some 7,000 people gathered at Jantar Mantar today from morning to evening. Leaders of various social and political movements spoke in support. A clear indication of how effective this movement is can be judged from the number of trolls in the comments below. Over the years I’ve seen that this number is directly proportional to the impact. I’ll be so sad & dejected the day they go missing. Thank you, my success-o-meter, for your hard work.
