It's been a while, but Eric is back. Same old stuff, mind you. But reassuringly so, I like to think. As John Peel used to say whenever The Fall brought out a new record, "always different, always the same". A new piece, about a January walk in the Fens.

So I published a piece about leaving home in the 90s, based on a drawing I'd made at the time and which I'd recently found in my loft. Incredibly, a pal has unearthed a photo, which must have been taken pretty much in that week - everything's in the same place. Even the penguin!

So, I went up into the loft, looking for something else entirely, and found this drawing made by me of my room in halls, way back in 1991. It was the first place I lived in after leaving home as a 19 year old. I decided to write about it.

Something for a rainy Sunday. It's a brand new piece about the 19 year old me leaving home for pastures new, in this case Aberdeen in 1990. Seems like yesterday!
Go on, nice cuppa and settle down for a story that I feel will chime with many of you.

I've dusted off my pencil and given it a sharpen, and here is the result. It's a bittersweet piece about leaving home and arriving as a muddled teenager in a new city. In this case Aberdeen. Features electoral fraud, a greatcoat and tomato ketchup.

Epiphany - a new piece and my first in a year! The word count tool tells me it is a 3 minute read. Bloody cheek. Took me 3 weeks to write it! So please read it twice, in case you miss the good bit. Makes it all worthwhile. Feel free to share it too!

It's #PloughMonday - time for Hilton Spanton Forster's annual outing. Follow the link below if you want to see him sitting in the back of a bullock.
You really do, by the way

Four years since this wet walk up the Wissey, where it meets the Ouse, accompanied by the clomp and swish of welly through wet grass, the fizz of cagoule on corduroy.
It's horrible out there today, so put the kettle on, get comfy and read this instead.

Five years since this wet and muddy plodge in Suffolk, exploring the Shotley Peninsula. Includes a tale of mushrooming rogues and the quest for a fabled fungal Shangri-la on the South Downs.

Near this place lies the Body of RICHARD ELLISTON, A Youth of such uncommon Endowments, singular Modesty Sweetness of Temper and engaging Behaviour... Death occurred by the Kick of a Horse.
Sad but sweet memorial spotted today in @Ely_Cathedral, half hidden behind some pillars
