Flashback:
911 operator hung up on a mother who called three times because her child wasnโt breathing.
Later, police walked up to the console and arrested the operator.
โMaโam, step away from the console.โ
โExcuse me, Iโm working.โ
โWe need you to come with us.โ
โWhat is this about?โ
โYouโre being arrested for hanging up on emergency callers.โ
โFor what? I didnโt do anything.โ
โA mother called 911 three times because her child stopped breathing. You hung up on her three times.โ
โI just didnโt feel like working.โ
โYou disconnected multiple emergency calls instead of sending help.โ
โYouโre arresting me for that?โ
โYes maโam. Turn around and place your hands behind your back.โ
Investigators say the operator intentionally disconnected hundreds of emergency calls, including reports of robberies, assaults, and medical emergencies.
In one case, a mother reportedly called three times about her child not breathing, but the calls were disconnected before help could be dispatched. The child later died.
People dial 911 expecting life-saving help.
Instead, some callers were allegedly hung up on.
