Thank you to those that helped pull up Himalayan Balsam yesterday. The plant grows rapidly in dense colonies and their large leaves block sunlight causing native plants to die. We cleared around 5,000 from the banks of Canley brook enabling other plant species to grow & flourish.
Volunteers enjoyed a 5mile guided walk through ancient woodlands in Canley, visiting a number of @canleygreenspaces projects on the walk. We discovered drifts of beautiful bluebells, storm fallen trees with tangled exposed roots and vivid yellow fields of flowering oil rapeseed.
Volunteers managed to pull up around 1,000 Himalayan Balsam plants today on the banks of Canley Brook. The plant has large leaves that blocks sunlight, causing native plant species to die. Their efforts will enable more plants to grow & support wildlife along the bankside.
We had our second session of wildflower sowing with @canleygreenspaces by the Canley brook today. Thank you to all those that braved the showery weather to help out!
