Kenya owes KSh 12.98 trillion.

But the truly frightening figure is not the debt itself. It is the KSh 2.3 trillion we are spending every year just servicing it.

About 75% of ordinary tax revenue is being consumed by debt service.

So when the government raises taxes, introduces new levies, increases electricity costs and squeezes businesses, remember this:

A huge portion of what Kenyans are being forced to pay is not building hospitals, roads or schools. It is paying creditors. We are being taxed today to finance loans borrowed yesterday, while being told to borrow even more for tomorrow.

That is not economic management.
That is a debt trap with a government seal on it.
