On December 26, 2025, 23-year-old independent journalist Nick Shirley went viral on X (formerly Twitter) for an investigative report alleging massive fraud in Minnesota's daycare and welfare systems. 
According to his reporting:
•The Findings: Shirley visited several childcare centers in Minneapolis that were reportedly receiving millions in state funds but appeared empty or inactive during operating hours.
•Quality Learning Center: The most prominent example was the "Quality Learning Center," which had received approximately $1.9 millionin FY 2025 (and roughly $4 million over a broader period) despite Shirley observing zero children on-site. He noted a sign for the center even had the word "Learning" misspelled as "Learing".
•Scale of Allegations: Shirley claimed his team uncovered evidence of over $110 million in fraud in a single day, framing it as part of a larger multi-billion-dollar scandal involving Minnesota's social services and the Somali community.

Up to 20 million people were displaced in the Partition of India in 1947, and none are still considered refugees pending a political solution between India and Pakistan.

They rebuilt their lives.

Likewise, Israel did not keep hundreds of thousands of Jewish refugees from Arab countries as “refugees” pending peace with Iraq, etc. They were absorbed and rehabilitated.

The Palestinians are the only case where a UN agency expects to keep people as refugees in perpetuity, living off international charity, until they can redraw the world map from 80 years ago.
