BREAKING: government announces inquiry into death of 7 year-old Zane Gbangbola, who passed away following floods at his family home.

Surrey Fire & Rescue Service recorded hydrogen cyanide in the property + immediately evacuated the house + neighbouring homes.

However, a government source briefed the media that carbon monoxide (CO) was the cause of death. 

A person making an entry in the PHE incident logs expressed surprise at the briefing because CO had not been recorded + there had been no post mortem at this point. 

The coroner later recorded carbon monoxide poisoning as the cause of death.

Zane's grieving parents have long fought for an inquiry into the tragic events that left Zane dead + his father, Kye, paralysed from the waist down.

The inquiry will be non-statutory with no powers to compel action unless parties agree to cooperate voluntarily:
