I like how everything surrounding this game is just being handled in the scummiest way possible and itโs still gonna be the best selling game ever
-locking already made content behind a paywall
-No physical release (code in a box ๐)
-A trailer premiere on fucking Netflix ๐ญ
The criticism for this game basically go like this.
C: "They already made your game it's called kingdom hearts 2"
A: He wanted to not only have MORE kingdom hearts 2, and have it based on HIS culture and HIS characters
C:"This is just kingdom Hearts clone, why would anyone buy this?" Or "Kingdom hearts has already been ported to everything, why buy this "lesser" version"
A: To have more of the game that fans love with new levels, magic, enemies, and challenges, and fun. As well as a game that has learned from the success and failures of the affirmationed Kingdom hearts 2
C: "They have already made like 30 of "the game you've already wanted to play" what is so different about your game?
A: If you think that playing Kingdom hearts 2 plays anything like any of the other Kingdom hearts games you are sorely mistaken. Kingdom hearts 2 specifically has the best balance best mechanics, and best feel of all of the Kingdom hearts games. This is because Kingdom hearts 1 and Kingdom hearts 2 were developed by the Tokyo team, who usually are making most of the final fantasy games, and have the most experienced developers, while the rest of the Kingdom hearts series is made by the Osaka team, they're basically the b team, and their games are notorious for terrible balance.
C:"This game isn't original at all, it has NO IDENTITY"
A: This game has it's own identity it's based on HIS culture and HIS characters. MECHANICALLY it's also inspired of kingdom hearts 2. Art is iterative, subgenre are created from the coping and interaction of game that already exists. This allows artist understand the thing they love better, by reconstructing it, but also how to improve on it, remix it, and create something original from it. No one company holds the monopoly on real-time action combat that also uses a turn based battle menu. Nor should they.
C:"The animations look the same as Kingdom hearts 2"
A:"They aren't, you can easily compare kingdom hearts 2's animations to this game's and see that it is infact different. HOWEVER, they both use similar animation techniques for in-betweening and frame timings, but so what? Are we gonna limit someone's ability to but key frames where they want to now?
The thing that bothers me the most is that no one was saying Anything about the DECADES AND DECADES of rouge-likes, dragon quest/final fantasy-likes, souls-likes, metroidvanias, monster hunter-likes, doom-likes, COD-likes, sonic-likes, mario-likes, mario kart, mario party-likes, zelda-likes, DMC-likes, ect, but suddenly someone wants to make a Kingdom hearts-like game and I'm suppose to be like. "OMG COPY CAT EVIL!!!" Piss off.
I've been following and loving this game for years now. I can't wait.
Christopher Nolan says one problem with modern amateur criticism for films is people recognizing a narrative trope & seeing that as a negative.
โTo be able to identify the mechanism doesnโt invalidate the mechanism.โ
