When Bola Tinubu came up with the CNG initiative in August 2023, barely three months into his administration, and went all out to drive it and make it work, the same Nigerians who are today feigning ignorance of this statement were the ones speaking down on the initiative.

They kicked against it, called it all sorts of names, spread propaganda and deliberate misinformation, attacked the policy and some even went as far as manufacturing ridiculous safety concerns around CNG.

Now, fast forward to today.

Over 120,000 vehicles have reportedly been converted to CNG, with another 100,000+ conversion kits in the works. The government is financing over 100 gas projects and has now expanded the planned CNG refuelling network to 1,000 stations.

CNG is becoming increasingly viable, particularly for public transportation.

And now the same people who spent years telling us CNG would never work have suddenly discovered that cheaper fuel should translate to cheaper transportation.

So because Tinubu is now asking governors to ensure that the lower cost of running CNG vehicles actually reflects in transport fares, you people have decided this is another evidence that Tinubu is wicked?

You cannot make this shit up.

This CNG initiative didn’t start yesterday because Atiku has suddenly remembered subsidy in 2026.

It started in 2023.

The government has spent the last three years building the infrastructure, converting vehicles and trying to create an alternative to petrol after subsidy removal.

Now that the conversation is moving from “CNG will never work” to “CNG should make transportation cheaper”, you people have conveniently forgotten all the things you said before.

This is not a “gotcha” moment.

It only exposes you.

Because if Tinubu had done nothing about transportation, you would scream.

He introduces CNG to reduce transportation costs, you scream.

He pushes governors to ensure the savings from cheaper CNG actually get to commuters, you still scream.

At this point, it is not about what the man does.

You people have simply decided that whatever he does must be bad.

“CHEAPER FUEL MUST MEAN CHEAPER TRANSPORT FARES”: PRESIDENT TINUBU, GOVERNORS MOVE TO CUT TRANSPORT FARES NATIONWIDE

I am pleased with my discussion with the Governors’ Forum this afternoon. The Governors have, on their own initiative, resolved to take immediate measures to bring down the cost of transportation in their states, with a strong focus on leveraging the cost benefits of CNG and electric vehicles.

The Federal Government is already investing significantly in this energy transition. Through the Presidential CNG Initiative, over 120,000 vehicles have been converted nationwide, with more than 100,000 additional conversion kits in the works. At the same time, we continue to expand conversion centres and refuelling infrastructure nationwide.

The Federal Government, through the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund, is currently financing more than 100 gas projects across the country, including 15 CNG mother stations and 86 daughter stations. In May, I commissioned four of these projects in Lagos, Abuja and Owerri, including a 15-station refuelling network in Lagos and an Abuja facility that can serve 1,000 cars and tricycles and 50 trucks and buses a day.

I have also directed the additional rollout of another 500 CNG refuelling stations nationwide in addition to the 500 stations ordered earlier in the year by the Fund, bringing the programme to 1,000 stations across the country.

Intra-state transport is where Nigerians feel the cost most directly, and it is where the states hold the levers. I am encouraged that our Governors are moving to bring these benefits closer to the people they serve.

We have agreed to set up a joint Federal and State committee to begin implementing these measures immediately. A vehicle running on CNG spends 60 to 80 per cent less on fuel than one running on petrol.

From October 1, our goal is that Nigerians begin to partake in those savings through lower transport fares.
We have agreed that cheaper fuel should result in cheaper fares!

Each tier of government must keep doing its part and work together for the benefit of every Nigerian.

PRESIDENT TINUBU DIRECTS COMPREHENSIVE FOOTBALL REFORM

President Bola Tinubu has directed a comprehensive reform of Nigerian football to overcome repeated failures to qualify for major regional, continental and world tournaments.

“The reform must respond to a longstanding need to strengthen governance, administration, stakeholder representation, development pathways, domestic competitions and accountability across Nigerian football,” he said.

The President noted that while other sports had recorded meaningful progress since the reset of the sports sector under the re-established National Sports Commission, football has continued to struggle because of structural weaknesses within the system.

“Football, Nigeria’s most popular sport and the greatest beneficiary of public support, investment and national attention, has continued to struggle basically due to structural deficits within the system,” Tinubu said.

He stressed that Nigerian football must begin to match the country’s exceptional talent, passion and resources with stronger institutions and sustained performance.

President Tinubu directed the Chairman of the National Sports Commission to work with the NFF Secretariat and relevant football stakeholders to ensure continuity in essential football administration and facilitate a broad, consultative reform process.

The process will include appropriate engagement with FIFA and CAF while safeguarding Nigeria’s obligations within the international football framework.

The President called on football stakeholders and Nigerians to support the transition and work together to build a stronger, more accountable and successful football system.
